We knew it was risky staying at a place with no reviews, but wanted to give it a try. Overall the place is fine, but it needs a lot of work to be worth what they charge.
Pros:
- The bed is actually a king size bed.
- The location is easy to get to and the view from the deck is beautiful.
- The house is only about 20 minutes from town.
- The TV is nice and works well.
Cons:
- The house was dirty when we showed up. Dirty floors, dusty surfaces, cobwebs all over the ceiling and corners of all the rooms covered in hundreds of dead fruit flies. Thankfully we had brought our own cleaning supplies, but it was obvious it hadn't actually been cleaned to the COVID procedures they claim in the listing.
- There were a lot of (alive) fruit flies all over the house, so much that we couldn't leave any food out and constantly had to swipe them away when we were trying to eat.
- The bed is WAY too soft and droopy. You could feel any tiny movement of the other person.
- There are soft spots on the deck that seemed sketchy and like the wood is rotted.
- The listing makes it look like the deck is attached to the yard--it is not. It also makes it look like there are just a few steps down to the water. You have to go out the side of the house and down a steep set of 25+ stairs to get to the yard, and a few more steps down to the ledge next to the water. This was fine for us but would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues and this information is not included in the listing anywhere. Also the photos show a little beach area next to the deck, but that isn't the case. There is a concrete section you can stand on but then it drops right into the water. If you are looking for a spot with a little beach area this isn't it.
- The trash outside was completely full with additional bags of trash next to the bin when we arrived. On our second night there some animals got into the trash bags and made a mess, which was annoying to clean up.
- The futon is incredibly uncomfortable to sit on, let alone sleep on. In the "history of the house" book it says the futon was purchased in 2002, which is quite obvious.
