Starting with the good: the property was very clean. For being a small cabin, the rooms were plenty large enough, and the outside space was nice.
Some cons: The property is a total DIY, from the steps leading to the cabin that are all unequal heights to the plywood walls/ceilings/cabinets/ baseboards. Is it a huge deal? No. It does the job. Is it aesthetically pleasing? Also no.
Perhaps the strangest thing about this place was that you’re not allowed to flush your toilet paper. Yes, you read that correctly. I thought for sure it was a typo on the welcome page in the living room, but above the toilet there is a sign that says to not flush your toilet paper. Very strange.
We have a young daughter so we had to be back at the cabin to do bedtime by about 8pm each night. On 2 nights, there was very loud thumping bass music playing somewhere very nearby. The cabin is located in a nature-filled area, but the properties are very close together still. It was hard to tell which direction the music was coming from. It went quite late.
The last thing that felt a little strange was that the presumed owner was staying on the property at the same time. Nothing weird, but usually that info is shared in the listing.
The biggest drawback was that Mammoth Cave Welcome center (and all other attractions) is 50 minutes away, not 20 as listing states. Partly our fault for not doing better research, but a real bummer upon arrival to find we’d be in the car about 2 hours every day.
