First the good: quiet neighborhood, clean home, and newly refreshed hot tub. All appliances worked. Lake was great to explore, even in the off season.
In 15 years I’ve never written a negative VRBO review. What first caught us off guard was the size and orientation of the rental. It should be listed as a tiny home attached to a bigger property with minimal yard. The hot tub was not private at all. The furniture was the biggest problem. The bed sagged like a hammmock and we discovered the frame was missing several screws. We had to repair the bed day 2 to be able to sleep. We were awakened from poor sleep starting at 5:30 am by repeated horrible alarm screeching from the water filtration tank in the bedroom closet. No escaping from that noise after a hard night. The futon was the only other major place to relax and it was uncomfortable in every position. The one dresser had a broken drawer. No workspace while cooking. No place to store our groceries, besides the fridge. The grill ran out of gas after one use. Both ceiling fans made noise. All the blinds were broken in some way. Given the orientation of the house, this was not private. This was our honeymoon. It’s not a great place for a romantic getaway, as it stands.
That said, the place was very clean and would make a great tiny home retreat with attention to important functionality like where people sit, cook, and especially sleep. Better utilization of the space and a little comfort would make a big difference.
