Salyards Mansion was a nice quiet place to stay. The mansion is within walking distance of Congdon Park which has a trail along a river with multiple waterfalls. It is a beautiful trail and I highly recommend. We saw two deer in the backyard of the mansion, just hanging out! There is a beautiful view of Lake Superior from the Catholic Church School parking lot one block right behind the mansion. Our room was very clean and perfect for our stay. We drove to Canal Park and enjoyed a harbor cruise, walked along the Lake Walk, and enjoyed eating out. We enjoyed the Aquarium and the zoo, and a drive up to Gooseberry Falls. So beautiful! Had pie at the Rustic Inn in Castle Danger, and a fantastic breakfast at Uncle Louie’s. The mansion has a splendid Living Room with a fireplace and lots of books, very inviting. We especially loved the Sun Room, a perfect place to sit and read. There are a lot of seating areas outside the mansion to sit and breath the fresh air, including a summer house. I was sorry that we were there too early in the season to see the flowers! There are pastries and coffee and tea provided for breakfast. I found that I wished there was some protein available such as yogurt or boiled eggs, and fresh fruit. Overall, we loved our stay.
