The first thing to remember is that Sugar Hotel is an inexpensive option for those wanting to experience the amazing history of Gyeongju.
Our room was large and clean, the bathroom well fitted out and we slept well. The staff were also welcoming and friendly, although their English was limited.
As other reviews have pointed out, the Sugar Hotel likely had a former life as a 'love hotel' and this is reflected in the decor. It also has some interesting amenities, including a functional dry-cleaning cabinet!
But this makes it interesting and quite a contrast to the Silla Dynasty tombs of Gyeongju.
The hotel is an easy walk to the bus terminal, one of the main markets and some of the historic sites, including the Hanok village.
The only downside was the breakfast. While everything was fresh and properly presented, it was also very limited and not always hot.
