Lots to love with this Annie's Creek property starting with the modern amenities and scenic location. Rooms were all well appointed and very comfortable. Great communication from management and very easy check-in/check-out process.
We've given up hotel vacations and part of the reason is to cook family meals together at the beginning and end of the day. While the kitchen had modern, updated appliances and a wonderful island at which to eat, the provided cookware was not up standards for a higher end vacation rental. It's an easy $100 fix and I hope that would be considered for future guests.
The scenery is very dramatic but this is an area that seems to be under considerable development. Our wonderful deck view was filled with the sounds of hammers, saws, and lumber being thrown about most days. I'm sure when the surrounding construction is done it will be idyllic. We had some significant winter weather during our stay and ran into the issue that some guests have noted of impassable roads. This property is at the top of Terry Peak and a skier/snowboarder's dream location. However, with it, you get the extremes of whatever weather the area is experiencing. In our case, it was an early spring, severe winter storm that made driving nearly impossible. Just be sure that you're prepared for that during the months when snow is possible in the area. We really appreciated the fast response we received from management when calling for plow assistance to get out of the development though a snow shovel on-site would have been a welcome addition as well.
Since we came to view the national monuments/memorials and other nearby attractions, we quickly realized that the location is a good 1-1.5 hours (one way) on very well-maintained, paved mountain roads from both Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse. We didn't mind the drives as the scenery is absolutely breathtaking and if you are there for the winter sports vs. tourist destinations, it's absolutely the right place to be. And, if you do have a taste for a fancy meal and some adult fun, Deadwood is just a hop, skip, and a jump from the property.
Our family had a great time at Annie's Creek and we're certain that, with due consideration of what we've shared, you'd have a great time as well.
