In the market for a hostel and a delicious burrito truck across the street? Feehand is your place. Accurate recordkeeping and anything above and beyond? No. This isn't for you.
I stayed 6 nights at the Freehand Hotel & Hostel. Hands down, it is the nicest hostel I've stayed at. You get the hotel amenities (Rooftop pool, yes please) and some delicious calamari at the bar. And the value, at ~$40/night for shared 4-8 bedroom accommodation is truly incredible.
But wait. Order 2 drinks and guacamole at the rooftop and the math works out to $65. Burger for lunch? $3 overcharged. Extend your stay? You still need to check out, and check back in at the regular check-in time. Random $.02 credit card charge and a bill with even more errors? Yep, that too.
So pick your poison. If I were more of means a lot of the above I wouldn't care about - though the checking out and checking back in when extending a stay I've never experienced. The really big things they get right: food, high value quality accommodations, and stellar amenities for a hostel. Attention to detail and accounting not quite there. Still, probably better than the 3* that google gives them.
Oh, and the Burrito Truck? It's name is Taco Rodriguez. Do try it. It's delicious
2/15 Update: When I left I had an outstanding balance of $125. I dutifully paid it back, and tried to book another reservation. I was told I was banned. Why, I asked? I was not given an answer.
