Our host, Alex Martins, at Casa Do Rio was not only highly accessible, she accommodated every one of our requests. She also greeted us on arrival, with her beautiful family. There was fresh traditional breads delivered every morning.
The place is immaculate, the accommodations are first class, and the grounds well kept. We loved how available Alex was throughout our stay. we could send her a message at any time with a question or request. We took advantage of ordering meals in a couple of times. This service was excellent and handled by Alex. The food was delicious and came in quite large portions. Alex also helped us with arranging a boat excursion. The three hour Douro River was certainly a must while staying at the villa. The boat will meet you at the dock just below the property. We enjoyed the sports and games that were available. We played bocce, swam in the pool, and had a competitive game of billiards each evening. From the villa there are numerous hikes that you can take. One very memorable one was one that took us up river on a public, well marked trail for a couple of miles. We were up high so new views of the river kept opening up as we walked. The view across the river was mesmerizing. There is an ancient abandoned winery that has numerous buildings on a terraced slope.
Overall, we couldn’t have been more pleased with Casa Do Rio, including the quality of staff that help to deliver a memorable experience.
