Near the wonderful Mazama store with its local ambiance and delicious food that is popular with locals and visitors alike. Also very close to the Methow Valley trail system for mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and hiking. There is also rock climbing in the area and a popular spot for this just down the road towards Mazama Store.
The Studio, a separate rental from the main house, has a queen bed and full sized sleeper sofa, full bath and kitchenette with coffee maker, full refrigerator, toaster, baking dishes, cutlery, dishes and blender: and a counter top multi-function convection oven that holds up to a 14 pound turkey. The "stove" is an electric infrared double burner plug-in countertop stove. No full stove or oven, no microwave, no laundry facilities. There is a seating area, smart TV and small dining table.
Outdoor table and gas grill (not available in the winter) are adjacent to the studio's entrance.
No pets. No smoking. No fires. No parties. Period. Please respect that you are staying in someone's home.
Wi-fi isn’t great and sometimes there are outages. We’re on a waiting list for better wi-fi.
Rural area, low population, things move slower. We are in the middle of the woods. You may encounter more insects than a non-rural environment. You may see marmots or even a bear. You may see their scat (the marmots are a problem this year, they have been leaving scat on the porch and tearing up rugs and making a mess frequently).
In the winter be prepared for ice, slush, deep snow, and the possibility of getting snowed in. The plow service for driveways has many customers. With heavy or consistent snow, it can take a while for them to get out to the property. There are no call outs for snow plowing. You should have inclement winter driving experience, snow tires, 4x4 and/or chains and carry sand for this area in the winter. Please be prepared for the possibility of getting stuck--including the driveway. There is a shovel on the porch in the event the county plow leaves a berm where the driveway meets the road, or for other stuck situations. There is no on call service to remove the berm--what we are saying is be prepared to shovel your way out of the driveway.
There is an attached, separately rented main house with its own entrance which might be rented by separate guests during your stay. We ask guests to be respectful of quiet hours and the neighborhood, but people have different ideas about what constitutes too much noise. Please be aware you may have neighbors present during your stay
If you have more than 4 people, or want complete privacy you might consider renting this "Big House" if available, which sleeps 13. The property is 5 acres and the lawn areas are very large. Be aware that though most people are quiet and respectful, it is human nature for humans to get excited, laugh...the house is not soundproofed.
Relax in the evenings on the garden benches, enjoying the views, or take a stroll on the trail running along the back of the property. In the winter, a MVSTA trail crosses the driveway, a groomed cross-country ski trail that joins over 100km of other groomed trails in the 2nd-largest cross-country ski trail system in the country. For those who prefer snowmobiling, the Yellow Jacket Snow Park is just a few miles up the road. A mom and pop downhill ski area is about 45 minutes away between Twisp and Omak.
The delightful Mazama Store is ~1.5 miles away on Lost River Road, with its local ambiance and delicious food that is popular with locals and visitors alike. Mazama Retreat at Goat Wall View is close to the extensive Methow Valley trail system for mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and hiking. (As mentioned, the ski trail crosses the driveway in the winter.) There is also rock climbing in the area and a popular spot for this just down the road ~1/2 miles towards Mazama Store. Fly-fishing and swimming holes with clear, cool water are a few minutes away.
