5 acres, beautiful views, peaceful grounds.
No pets. No smoking. No fires. No parties. Period. Please respect that you are staying in someone's home.
Wi-fi isn’t great and sometimes there are outages. We’re on a waiting list for better wi-fi.
Rural area, low population, things move slower. We are in the middle of the woods. You may encounter more insects than a non-rural environment. You may see marmots or even a bear. You may see their scat (the marmots are a problem this year, they have been leaving scat on the porch and tearing up rugs and making a mess frequently).
In the winter be prepared for ice, slush, deep snow, and the possibility of getting snowed in. The plow service for driveways has many customers. With heavy or consistent snow, it can take a while for them to get out to the property. There are no call outs for snow plowing. You should have inclement winter driving experience, snow tires, 4x4 and/or chains and carry sand for this area in the winter. Please be prepared for the possibility of getting stuck--including the driveway. There is a shovel on the porch in the event the county plow leaves a berm where the driveway meets the road, or for other stuck situations. There is no on call service to remove the berm--what we are saying is be prepared to shovel your way out of the driveway.
There is an attached, separately rented studio with its own entrance. For complete privacy, consider renting this attached studio with a separate entrance, if available. We ask guests to be respectful of quiet hours and the neighborhood, but people have different ideas about what constitutes too much noise. Please be aware you may have neighbors present during your stay.
*Please note our cancellation policy* Consider taking out travel insurance to protect your trip in case of any cancellation. Please do not expect us to be your insurance policy. We do not refund your stay outside of the cancellation period guidelines unless all roads to Mazama are closed (please read the cancellation policy section of the VRBO listing). If you still decide to cancel and did not elect to purchase travel insurance and part of the dates of your stay become rebooked we can refund that portion of your stay.
Quiet hours are 9 pm to 8 am.
10 a.m. check out time is firm. Departures beyond this time will be charged a late check out fee. No early check-ins or late check outs due to cleaner’s schedule and the amount of time it takes to clean.
Room, Kitchen and Living Area Specifics:
Our home is large and welcoming. It was built in the early 90s and besides appliances, still says "90s" quite a bit. It is not a fancy, architecturally refined home. But it is still someone's home you'll be staying in, so please respect that.
There are 3 bedrooms (a queen and two kings; one king has a queen sleeper sofa as well) and a spacious full "loft" area (a third floor) with a queen bed, double bed and queen sleeper sofa. Seating areas on this floor include a couch and a chaise lounge. The TV is located on this floor. (An additional TV is in the King Master bedroom in the lower level.)
The kitchen has a dishwasher, microwave, coffeemaker, tea kettle, baking dishes, gas oven and range, cutlery, dishes, wine glasses and a dining table that seats 8-10. There is a landline and the phone is located in this living area. Please watch little ones, the electrical outlets aren't childproof, there is a balcony in the loft, and porches/railings with some height. Please do not rearrange the furniture inside and then not put it back. This is very hard on our cleaner.
A large deck is off the dining area/kitchen and has outdoor seating areas, a propane barbecue grill and a propane fire pit table (the firepit and outdoor furniture are not available in the winter due to snow). Another lawn faces this back deck.
The delightful Mazama Store is just down the road. It's 1.5 miles from Mazama Retreat at Goat Wall View--not a full grocery store but has produce, beer, wine, some bulk items, snacks, delicious to-go items, some deli items and dry goods. There are a couple of restaurants near the Mazama Store and a dozen or so in Winthrop ~20 minutes away.
Recreation in the area is off the hook! Lots of hiking and mountain biking within minutes; fishing spots, rafting, stand up paddleboarding, swimming holes, and gorgeous North Cascades National Park up Hwy 20 accessible during the summer.
