reservation canceled by host

On May 19,2025, we made reservations for May 24-25,2025 at 24 Mount Ridge Court, Monroe, NY. We soon received confirmation of our reservation from Eric. Originally we said that we would have seven guests, but then stated that we might have as many as 13 guests staying in the home that was advertised to sleep 16.We soon received the reply from Eric "I'm sorry we're no longer host guests at this house."My response was "We received your email of 34 minutes ago "I'm sorry, we no longer host guests at this house." Are we to understand that you are not able to confirm our reservation?"Eric's reply was "Yes please cancel the reservation."Because we needed to find a place to stay for our grandson's graduation from West Point, we immediately found another place to stay.We then contacted VRBO by email about canceling our reservation and receiving a full refund. We were told that in order to receive a refund, the host would have to cancel the reservation. On May 20, 2025, we contacted Eric. "Eric, we need to have you cancel our reservation."Eric's reply was "Can you please contact VRBO to cancel it."Our reply was "I contacted VRBO, and they wouldn't cancel our reservation. They said I should contact you. Actually, they would cancel our reservation, but we would not get a refund. Since you canceled our reservation, you should notify them.VRBO please read the remaining emails we received from Eric. We expect a full refund since we did not stay at his place.

Nice stay for a family trip - just one glitch...

The place was as described and in a very nice neighborhood - however, none of our phones had service and we needed the wifi. Unfortunately the wifi did not work, which made the stay miserable for the kids who couldnt play their games and such. Wifi is a necessity in 2025. I would have given perfect scores if we had wifi.

Stay away from this filthy property

We have reserved this house by looking at beautiful pictures and descriptions but it was NOT at all matching in reality. The pictures showed house is very clean, beautiful and welcoming but in reality the house was dirty, leaky and broken of many things. When we checked in , on last hour the host called us and told that there was a major leak in powder room bathroom at main floor. Plumbers were working for few hours until late evening and still not fixed. Water was everywhere including in kitchen and we had to clean it by ourselves after they left. Water supply was off for few hours. But this is just the beginning of our experience.House was dirty, old and smelly. Carpets were not cleaned in both the floors. Dishwasher was broken. We complained about it but no response.We took pictures and also complained about it but the response was not positive. In fact it was very rude.Bedding, and pillows covers were not only torn but also not clean. Sofa in the family room was full of dirt. We spent good two hours cleaning everything including detailed vacuuming the house.Customer service from Eric, property owner/manager was pathetic and poor. No actual resolution was offered instead all we heard from him were excuses.Overall house is too old and needs tons of repairs and maintenance. Property owner/manager does not look like in right attitude to change anything significant. We highly suggest to go elsewhere even if means drive a bit more.

This home was just what our group of 16 needed to find rest, reconvene from the day’s activities, and prepare for all the next day’s activities. The town of Monroe was a great place to stay as it was centrally located for all the places we visited.

Perfect House for a large group

We stayed at this house for a family wedding and it was perfect - saved us so much money compared to the local hotel. Plus we were able to have time to hang out and have fun together in a spacious living area rather than a hotel lobby.

Late May Stay

The house and its location were very nice. We felt safe and comfortable, especially downstairs with the flow of the dining room, kitchen and living room. If you like to cook the kitchen is sparsely equipped (pots, pans, cooking utensils-wise), but we made it work. It was nice to have 6 bedrooms and everyone slept comfortably but in many ways, I feel like our arrival and having the house ready for us was not a priority to the renter. The yard had not been mowed (grass was 7-8" high)--the bushes leading up the pathway from the parking area to the main door were overgrown to the point where you had to step into the grass to carry things in. My husband and I stayed in the basement bedroom. When we opened the slider the backyard had not been mowed either and there were two loose tarps, an uncoiled hose, and a large deflated kiddie pool to our left and right...I never stepped outside. The pool was uncovered but dirty so that was a disappointment as well since it was quite hot when we were there. Also, the deck off the kitchen area is nice but it needs some love. We did not go out barefoot for fear of getting splinters. I would guess the renter does not live close by and does not keep an eye on true upkeep and maintenance. He was responsive once we got to the house, but impossible to get a hold of before. It is a nice house in a pretty area, but It made me sad that the outdoor spaces advertised weren't cared for and ready for us to be drawn to relax in.

No heat or hot water

During our stay, the house, the heat was not working and there was no hot water. We had to order firewood to warm the downstairs. There were space heaters, but that was not enough to warm the house during our stay.

Nice home ok area nice lakes around. Home needs a lot of maintenance. Front dinning room door was open to the street when we arrived. The front door of dinning room is broken and unable to lock or secure. Called manager she sent someone over but did not fixed the door. It remained unsecured during tge entire stay. Back door unlocked upon our arrival. Towel rack in master hanging off the wall broken. Front door screen door bent and broken. Water ciming from ac vent in madter bath sure do to ac condensation. Water leak damage on celing in kitchen, and living room. Patio needs some care and maintenance. Ac loud. Pool just a above ground play pen for kids not much for adults. Kitchen stocked nicely. Pile of trash out in front by driveway. House again is nice just needs some attention and until then should not rent for its listed price.

This host is very irresponsible knowing 8 months in advanced about the reservation and not having the pool ready or even communicating that the pool would not be ready for use is just unexceptable. Also property has many things wrong with it. The oven doesn't work, the gas tank for the grill was left empty, all shower heads need to be replaced, the tv and mini Fridge in the basement bedroom dont work, the power outlet in the master bedroom doesn't work and the wall fixture above jacuzzi is just hanging off the wall, and the basement bedroom had ticks in the bed so it was unusable.
