The room I booked housed a king-size bed, private bathroom, refrigerator, small desk, and a tv (which I never even turned on). While the room was spartan, the hotel amenities are the real draw. A sliding glass door opened onto the communal deck which provided ample and comfortable seating allowing me to find a private space to work but with an open layout the deck also fostered easy small talk with fellow travelers.
If you stare at the water long enough and decide you need to be closer, the hotels got you covered. Stand-up Paddle Boards and Kayaks are tied up to the deck and are free to use for hotel guests. If you want to head to the beach but don’t want to risk losing your parking space in the small lot at the hotel, you can hop on one of the hotel-provided bicycles.
While the days on my journey were busy, having a quaint hotel on the waterfront provided a perfect oasis to return to in the late afternoon before reconvening with family for evening activities. A quiet and relaxing space with enough chatter coming from the restaurant next door to remind me that the bustle of the gulf coast was still nearby.
My trip was brief, and my time was not meant to be spent alone. I don’t venture to Florida often, but I found a place in Latitude 26 to make me change that frequency. Over my two days I just kept thinking that I need to come back for a stay here with my wife, when we could take the time to enjoy all the amenities that are offered instead of me just writing about them.
