we departed our cabin on the afternoon of April 29, one day before we intended because our experience from arrival late on April 28 through the morning of April 29 was very unpleasant and disappointing. Our intentions were to experience comfort, safety, and convenience in a cabin at a pleasing and beautiful venue. Unfortunately, our expectations were not met satisfactorily.
Here is our reasoning for departing one day early and our overall dissatisfaction:
1. We were surprised to discover that the shower was unenclosed in a separate building; that should have been revealed in a better description of the cabin’s amenities to allow us to prepare accordingly.
2. We became suspect of the quality and safety of the electrical system in the cabin after observing one light fixture dangling by its wires in the main room, an uncovered light receptacle in the bedroom, the lights dimmed when running hot water in the bathroom and a warning not to run the AC and microwave at the same time. We avoided using the electric heater because of concern for our safety, thus it was too cool in the cabin for our comfort.
3. The dead bolt does not function (the bolt cannot be extended into the door jam when the door is shut) and the key that operates the dead bolt does not unlock the doorknob. Hence, we could not lock the cabin after we left for the day so we had to take many personal belongings with us r that day to prevent possible theft. Had we locked the doorknob from the inside upon leaving, we could not have reentered.
4. The surroundings are very unsightly. We observed piles of wood scraps, kayaks and other water equipment scattered about haphazardly, a discarded “Consolidated Nutrition” sign and several miscellaneous items slung beside the shower facility, junked vehicles, and a large area adjacent the dam that looked like it had been a strip mined and not reclaimed.
5. There is no end cap on the gutter over the steps into the cabin, hence gutter water hit us while entering and exiting the cabin.
6. The cabin bathroom door cannot be shut properly to ensure privacy.
We have other concerns about the cabin/property, but I have decided to list only these top six.
We are providing you these details in the hope that you can remedy at least some of these issues before other people reserve your cabin; other issues are more long-term endeavors. This cabin has great potential.
