We stayed @Almost Paradise in early February 2023 for 10 days. It truly is a beautiful place (house, beach, etc). The people of Cat Island are the most friendly people we have met-be sure to visit the Cultural Village (where it says Fish Fry on the map). Wonderful food - Blue Waters Restaurant is outstanding, Duke's Conch Shake is a hoot-be sure to just stop in and have a Kalik with Duke. Bought bread from Olive's (get the cinnamon bread & make french toast!!!). Bought liquor from 700 Spirits. When they say the ferry comes in with food on Thursday and Sunday's-they aren't joking...so much food (including fresh produce), most of the meat is frozen. Hidden Treasures we almost didn't eat at because it wasn't on the water :(, but apparently their structure had a fire so they had to move to another location. Don't let the location (right on the main (only) road) deter you. Wonderful mahi mahi tacos, excellent conch, the most AMAZING pina coladas (he will ask if you want spirits in them-is there another way to have a pina colada??). They are almost like eating "adult" ice cream - so smooth! Alvernia's food market has wonderful people working there. We stopped at Gilbert's (they have a lot more food, etc) but found whomever was working behind the counter to not be the most friendly/helpful person (the only person on the island that we encountered). We had lunch at Fernandez Bay Resort, very underwhelming. Beach is beautiful, food not so much. Be sure to check out ALL of the beaches on the island. McQueens is beyond anything that I could ever imagine. Saw a HUGE sting ray. Hawks Nest is cool-a long drive, but their restaurant had wonderful food (that wasn't fried which a lot of the food on the island is fried). The only reason that I didn't give Almost Paradise a 5 star is that it's a LONG drive (about 25 - 30 minutes). If you are unfamiliar with Cat Island most of the restaurants & grocery stores are in the "Old Bight" area so when you decide to go to town, make it worth your while. Pick up groceries (maybe plan it when the ferry has come in), go to lunch, explore some new beaches. We went to town way to frequently for my liking, but we had 9 days and it was sunny all the time so I could still sit out by the amazing beach, soak up the sun, have wonderful cocktails and not see ANYONE for the entire 9 days. Oh wait, we saw 1person & he was visiting from Ireland. And be sure to stop @Mary's Crab Shack (right before you get to the house)
