The staff and service was stupendous. Great quality of a property. There isn’t anything I really just could complain about. We loved our stay and did not want to leave. Thank you Excellence and the entire staff. We will be exploring sister properties and properties alike as we become familiar with the VIP service and as we travel across additional countries.

The property is very nice and the service is great. The staff were amazing and extremely helpful. We ended up upgrading and getting the VIP package which was suppose to give us better benefits such as high quality drinks and food but the drinks were the same all around except one of the bars & the food was good but small portions. Also they never restocked my fridge like they say they would. With the upgrade, they’re suppose to restock your fridge everyday and restock any bottles you might have finished and that never happened. Also the “room upgrade” was a scam. It was a bore of the resort not the beach.

I love that from the moment you step foot onto the property until the time you leave the property, every staff member was kind, approachable and helpful. They have an abundance of daily activities; and restaurants to eat at. My only disappointment was they did not refill our room minibar and fridge daily without me having to call them.

My partner and I stayed at the resort for a week. The good: the resort was very clean and well maintained, there were quite a few things to do and a lot of bars, so you were never too far away from one. The rooms were also very nice, spacious, and the hot tub was a nice touch. The property in general was excellent. There were some annoyances, mainly that the only pool that was actually worth hanging out in was the one with the swim up bar, no one hung out at any of the other ones. Another annoyance was the fact that the swim up bar didn’t have the greatest selection of alcohol. If you want any of the nicer liquors, you’d have to go to one of the side bars, that was definitely annoying. Those were more so annoyances but they weren’t what made me write off this resort. The main issue with the resort, and the reason I won’t be back and can’t recommend it, it’s the food. The food was mediocre at best. There were 3 restaurants that we tried that were fine; Oregano (the Italian place), Spices (the Japanese restaurant), and lobster house (the seafood restaurant). The rest were varying degrees of bad. Bland, under seasoned food, spotty service, and I’m pretty sure I got food poisoning a couple of times. The breakfast buffet was probably the worst though. I don’t know how you mess up breakfast but this place found a way. The other main issue is noise, the shoes they put on are very loud, and even in a far away room with everything closed it’s very loud.

The options for dining were great. Had more dinner options than lunch but the number of restaurants is amazing. The property is very well maintained. Some of the staff are super friendly where others seemed to be put out for no apparent reason. Several of the whirlpools outside did not work but in the seven days we were there they were not fixed. Overall stay was very nice and would recommend to others as a nice place to stay on vacation for any occasion.

I would like to share my recent experience at Excellence El Carmen, which was quite disappointing. We made reservations for two rooms through Expedia as VIP platinum members, expecting complimentary upgrades. Unfortunately, this did not happen. Instead, we were assigned one room with a king bed and another with two separate twin beds, which was unsuitable for two couples celebrating their anniversary. When we raised our concerns, the response from the staff was rude, stating, “That’s what you booked; you can complain with Expedia.” This was particularly disheartening,especially as loyal guests of the resort for many years. We reached out to Expedia, and while they were apologetic, they could only offer a resolution timeframe of 24-72 hours for our week-long stay. Although we finally received a room change the next day to a king bed, the overall experience left us feeling unhappy. It’s evident that the resort has changed significantly for the worse over the last two years. I question why Expedia list Excellellence El Carmen as a VIP resort when they fail to honor that status. We have always returned for the exceptional service provided by dedicated employees. I would like to sincerely thank Yocasta for her help with restaurant reservations and the attentive waitstaff, including Deudone,Wilkin, Rosario, Lorenzo, and others whose names I may have forgotten. I also want to acknowledge Jose Luis, who wasn’t working during our visit but always went above and beyond to serv us.
