The good things first: The overall area is fine, a mix of single and multi family units. The street itself is still in transition, so a few homes are well updated, some older but kept up and few in the midst of rehab. It felt very safe, safe enough for daytime walks. The location is only 5 min from the Duke cancer center and less to an entrance to the gardens. There are restaurants and a grocery within 5-7 min. But what you see in the photos is exactly what you get. Nothing more. The living/dining area is roomy. The beds are fine. The bathrooms are good enough. But everything is moderately beat up or done cheaply. Old cabinets painted over and needing to be cleaned. Stove and countertops not really clean. Vinyl plank flooring badly installed. Old backsplash tile in the kitchen edged with brand new, unmatched tile. Clear evidence of missing towel and toilet paper holders just painted over. Nails in bathroom walls also just painted over. Unrepaired dings in some walls. No sense of decorating efforts to make the spaces welcoming. We had to ask for kitchen lights because none were functioning. We left it cleaner than we found it, but we slept well and kept our medical appointments. I would NOT stay here again.
