We really enjoyed our one week stay at Newstead Cottage. It really is all that one needs for a relaxing break in the sun. The well-equipped and spacious kitchen has all you would need to self-cater, and there are several good restaurants within easy walking distance, if you prefer to eat out. The large bedroom has a wonderfully comfy queen-size bed, large teak wardrobe, chest of drawers and safe. We didn't need to use the air-conditioning unit, as it was not too hot at night, but all the rooms have large, silent, ceiling-mounted electric fans which keep the house cool. The living room has two comfortable suede leather sofas, a large screen TV, telephone and WiFi. We brought our own books, but the cottage is well stocked with a range of paperback novels and books on Barbados. The en-suite bathroom has a good shower cubicle - very welcome after swimming on Accra beach which is only a five minute walk away. We made good use of the shaded veranda to the front of the cottage - ideal for breakfast and afternoon tea while watching the humming birds and Barbadian doves. We found a useful convenience store only five minutes and a modern fully stocked supermarket only fifteen minutes walk away (for $2 you can catch one of the very frequent buses for your return trip if you have heavy shopping to carry). We hired a car for our stay, but only for exploring the Island. One isn't necessary for local trips. We appreciated that the cottage is gated, with secure parking for the car when we weren't using it. A very important part of Newstead Cottage is Claire, the housekeeper. She gave us a very warm and friendly welcome when we arrived late on our first evening (our flight had been delayed), and didn't leave until she was satisfied we had all we needed for our first night. On her two subsequent visits during the week we enjoyed learning from her a great deal about the Island and about the Bajan way of life. Her enthusiasm and ready smile are infectious, and she made our wonderful week in the sun even more special. Newstead Cottage is a little gem, and we recommend it highly.
