My partner and I stayed here over Halloween weekend and had a really great time relaxing in the woods. The cabin was gorgeous on the inside and out, and the back patio overlooking the woods and lake was the perfect place for morning coffee. You will have all the cooking supplies and firewood you need to enjoy the kitchen and the fire pit. There are two other cabins that are far enough away to make your stay still feel very private and secluded, which is exactly what we were looking for. The only surprise was that there was a sign saying not to put toilet paper in the toilet. This was not a big deal for us, as plumbing in remote areas is not always as robust as in other areas so it was not entirely unexpected. The owner, Robbie was very very nice and responsive the whole time—and we asked a LOT of questions.
There is plenty of equipment to enjoy the lake too, kayaks, peddle boats, life jackets, etc. The Ozark mountains are gorgeous and there is plenty of hiking in the area. We highly recommend Glory Hole Falls, which is a bit of a drive away, but so worth it. All the roads through the forest are a joy to drive anyway.
Some notes about getting there and driving around:
The property is at the top of a very steep gravely dirt road and when we arrived it had been raining in sheets so it was also a little muddy and pretty uneven in some places. We drove a KIA Soul, and while it made it up in the rain, I did white knuckle it the whole way.
If you have the option for 4-wheel drive, do take that vehicle. If not, once you make it up to the top there is the opportunity to rent a Jeep. I wish we had used that option! Our KIA ended up being fine but I felt a little nervous sometimes.
There is a path down to a dock on the lake that is extremely extremely steep and gravely. I would not recommend attempting to drive this path in something other than an ATV or well-tired Jeep or similar. We chose to walk down the path and it was the biggest work out of all the hikes we took on the way back up. Well worth it to watch the sun on the lake though.
To close out, this property made me wish we had dogs. If you have dogs they will have so much fun running around on the trails or just hanging out around the fire with you. If you have outdoor dogs there is a really roomy raised bed cage to keep them safe from any bigger animals at night. It looks like a giant bird cage. Please take your dogs here!
