Delightful Travesia B&B is located on a hillside above central Valparaiso on a short two-block street with minimal traffic. Several restaurants are a 5-minute walk away.
As a writer-photographer, Simon at reception was friendly & amicable, offering great locations with maps and pamphlets for DIY self-guided tours. Breakfast was included - a nice selection of cereals, fruits, breads, ham, cheese, eggs cooked to order, plus superb coffee and teas. The dining room was small but intimate, next to a grand open living room with easy chairs and an old-style 45 rpm record Wurlitzer jukebox no less!
A 100 year-old, 3-story house, perhaps a small mansion from days gone by, it features private suites, plus bunkrooms for those on a budget. Beds were comfortable with nice linens. The carpets in the reception area which were a tad old and faded.
No carpets covered the mahogany wood plank floors in the bedroom, fine for me as less chance for dust mites and allergies. A minor quibble: the two bedside night table lights - one had a broken bulb, the other had a broken light socket.
With no air-conditioning, the room was initially hot when I arrived, but by nightfall, breezes coming off the ocean had cooled the room down after I opened the windows.
In summary, as a budget traveller, this place was perfect for me, with a spacious room and good amenities. I will gladly come back here again on my next trip.
Cheers,
