We have a mixed reaction about our stay at the Semora, NC VRBO, “HYCO HAVEN” on the Lake. We came in the fall to take in the cool, crisp outdoor weather and relax on a lakeside with peace and tranquility.
On the positive side: the facility was well appointed and equipped. The kitchen had pots, pans, dishes, and glassware we needed. The bathrooms had sufficient supplies and towels. The bedrooms had comfortable and cozy bedding. The living room area was spacious and furnished nicely. The recreation space with the pool table was one of the highlights.
The fire pit was a highlight; a wonderful place to spend time with an ample supply of firewood.
Kayaks and paddle boards; although cool weather, these help to get us out on to the water.
The dock was also a great place to relax and read in the comfortable recliners.
On the not so positive side: We first had to chip away a considerable amount of ice from the back wall of the freezer. Apparently ice collection bin was not correctly positioned; water flowed onto the back wall and froze. Eventually we had sufficient ice.
Judi pulled back the curtains and shears. The rod holding shears fell on her head. We had to check each rod and tighten the screws tight keep the rods from coming apart. Also, the front storm door would not close shut and would blow open with a gust of wind.
The dust accumulation under the master bed was heavy. In the Jacuzzi tub and we found a long black hair. No one in our party has black hair. Also, the glass on all eight of the sliding doors units need to be thoroughly cleaned.
Not a window nor a sliding door had a screen. We were compelled, due to the bugs, to keep everything shut and miss out on nature’s fall evening delights.
Also annoying was the sounds of wildlife creatures in the attic directly above the master bedroom. At certain times of the night, they were very active.
When making arrangement at the outset, it was not clear that the busy highway 57 was across the water only about 500 yards away. We did not appreciate the constant noise from the traffic.
We felt that the pricing led us to believe this was a top-quality facility. Although the house was recently renovated, the material and furnishing used were not the high-end we expected.
Overall, we made the best of the time spent at this VRBO. However, we will seek another VRBO for any future stay at Lake Hyco. We hope you understand.
