A 1 night stay at a spruced up grabs old hotel that was truly magnificent in its Christmas gear. Room was the perfect temp after a night in the cold after being bumped from a flight. Had only 5 hours of sleep before my morning flight but it felt like so much more. Guest were festive and joyful but my room was quiet as a warm cave under a crust of snow.

So here's the issue - the Hotel (minus the rooms) is a 5 star hotel - the rooms are at best a 2 star - similar to a howard johnson room at the newark hotel. The furniture is old and smashed up, there was basically n closet (help 3 items of clothing). Walls are gross and the bathroom was VILE. Dirty showercap on the back of the door, hair in the tub, toilet was one of those puplic washroom toilets, light fixutre was FILLED with dirt, paint peeling everywhere. Really gross. The bar lock on my door was broken, luckily my deadbolt still worked. Hotel itself is very nice, gym is fantastic. There is not enough food or bar choices since the general public uses all the facilities we were unable to get a table for food or drinks at any of the spots 4 out of 5 nights (luckily I lived in the city a long time so knew where else to go for a quick bite nearby). Had a business breakfast one morning at Reign (the only place to eat in the morning). Two omelettes, two coffees and 1 bowl of berries, $125 before tip. All in all, for $2,100 for the 5 nights I was there I would not go back again, and that says a lot since my office is attached underground. If you don't care about what a lobby looks like I would pick all the less expensive hotels in the area.

It was our first stay and we were only there one night. However, we found the Royal York very comfortable and the cost was quite reasonable for a luxury hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the meal at the Reign Restaurant was fantastic.

That was not special
Well...they are known for being pricy, and it was the first time being there, we were curious, it had a good deal... and now disappointed...when we got there...no one was at the check in desk...so waited around for 20 minutes...Asked a guy who worked there who said he would find someone...he just went and hid behind a pillar... I asked again...he acted like it was the 1st time he was being asked. Bed was comfortable, so that's a plus. There cable did not work for a day or so...so all that was on there TV's...was add's about how awesome they are...um...no reimbursement for that, just that they blame Bell. At one point I asked if I can be given a disposable fork...since had left overs...and they insisted on not giving it to me...but having it delivered...it took 30 minutes...and I had to call...after being down there in person...since the order was in the system...but not activated...Um, room was clean, so a plus. Oh you have to pay for the internet, 15 to 25$ a day...that shocked me...Other hotels don't do that...I even called to double check on that...it was indeed the case. Oh and the lobby in the evening is quite...lively.
