With this cabin, you don't have to choose LAKE vs. RIVER for your kayaking, canoeing, or fishing fun - you can do both! Starting out from the waterfront of this cabin, you can explore all of Platte Lake, and take side trips along the Platte River. The upstream portion of the Platte River also connects to Little Plate Lake; the downstream portion empties into Lake Michigan. Each day we kayaked a different route and enjoyed a variety of wildlife including deer, raccoon, beaver, turtles, loons, kingfishers, and hawks. For fish, we saw catfish, carp, and gar, and we caught bluegill, perch, and rock bass. The lake water is super clear so you get a great view of the changing underwater terrain, from perfectly sandy bottom in the shallows, to the various weed beds in 3 - 20 feet. We also did a couple of bike trips to Lake Michigan, starting from the cabin, going to M22 and beyond. The cabin was a great home base for all our activities and it was nice to have the grill and campfire in the evening. The waterfront is peaceful, grassy, and shady... and there is a stretch of sand in front of the cement breakwater that forms a mini "beach" that makes it easy to get kayaks in and out. Another plus was being able to keep our kayak trailer on the property.
