We were in Ohiopyle during the off-off season to visit Fallingwater. We had no idea that this tiny little town is a mecca for cyclists and whitewater rafters from April to October, which is why accommodations like this exist.
The cabin was sparkling clean and well equipped. The beds were comfortable and the linens luxurious. The heat, hot water and water pressure were entirely satisfactory.
I can't imagine what this little town is like in the busy season, with thousands of tourists thronging the streets, but we'd be happy to return in the quiet months to get a better look at the area -- and we'd stay here again in a heartbeat. If you're planning a cycling or river trip in high season, you should book early.
3 things you need to know:
1. Your mobile phone won't work, but there's an open WiFi network that will get you onto the Net before you get into the cabin -- and once inside, the WiFi is excellent.
2. Very little is open in the evenings during December, so bring your own food for dinner. The kitchen is great.
3. You may hear an emergency siren or freight trains coming through town at night. Just ignore them.
