I could write a brochure about Laura and David's place. It is fabulous! Spacious and quiet, with generous windows that open onto a private garden surrounded by towering hedges, it's a quick walk from the train station. Squeaky clean. Delightful and informative hosts.
I was a little nervous about staying outside of London and selected this property based on the reviews. I was a little confused about the area, so I'll take a minute to explain. First, the town is actually "Virginia Water" (that's not a typo) and takes its name from a nearby lake, aka Virginia Water. This lake is in the gigantic park around Windsor Castle, officially known as Windsor Great Park. You can get there on foot (as I did) by walking down the street--it takes less than 30 minutes.
Once in the park, there's the lake (Queen Victoria held parties there), miles & miles of trails, pavilions with refreshments, and fabulous gardens. My favorite was The Valley Gardens, 250 acres of woodlands, putting-green styled grass, massive blooming rhododendrons, and moss studded with woodland hyacinths (bluebells to the British).
Windsor Castle is at the north end of this park in the town of Windsor.
Back to Virginia Water... the houses around this VRBO are monumental, with beautiful gardens. The area felt safe & luxe. A famous golf course is cleverly hidden across the street.
I hope this info will put your mind at rest: do not hesitate to book!
