In the historic centre of the town, but in a quiet small street: this hotel is perfectly situated to walk short distances to a lot of monuments, museums, the shopping street or the strange shopping centre behind the reconstructed front of the duke's castle. The outside looks very historical and the stairs inside are as well historical but the rooms show all contemporary standards.
Comfortable stay. Clean and and a lovely house and great location. The service could be a bit more friendly but overall, especially for Brunswick standards, the staff was very friendly and helpful. If you are not used to the local traits (sighing and complaining is a sign of sincerity rather than annoyance) then you might be forgiven that at first impression guests might not be welcome but overall a very pleasant and charming stay. Our bathroom was quite an experience in terms of accessibility but as the house is a very old and very charming house this is easily forgotten and can be taken as part of the experience.
Excellent location, could walk everywhere easily. Spot outside - in quiet street - to park while unloading luggage. 24hr Car park 100 metres away. Helpful staff, nice garden to sit in, nice old-world- timbered bedroom ceiling - feel to hotel, good amenities. Would highly recommend.

Liked: Staff & service
I originally booked an apartment room for my whole family of four. However, there is barely any internet connection in that area, and the shower temperature is very difficulty to manage. I had to change a room to an area with better internet connection, but the rooms are much smaller and the shower ceiling is so low that you need to bend your body when taking a shower. The room is definitely not the same as those in modern hotels, on the other hand, it is quite unique to stay in a historical building. The nearby area is convenient. Hotel staff are quite patient.
This is a smaller, intimate hotel in a middle age house. The staff -especially the manager- make you very welcome. The rooms are spacious and well furnished, the bed is comfortable. There is a nice continental breakfast (included in the price. The location of this hotel is great.
This is a basic European hotel. No frills, but very clean and helpful desk staff who provided us with city maps and suggestions. No onsite parking but a parking garage located right around the corner with reasonable rates. Wonderful attached Italian restaurant and great breakfast buffet. The ceilings in the rooms are very low!

I will not choose this hotel next time...
negatives: no refrigerator/mini bar in the rooms... heating system not working even at 10 oC outside... very noisy ventilating fan in the bath room even running for another five minutes after leaving bathroom... unfriendly young lady at reception...
positives: very friendly lady at the breakfeast service and helpful young guy at the reception...
A 500 year old hotel in the old part of Braunschwe
If you're looking for an old hotel in the old part of Braunschweig, Hotel Ritter St. George might be it for you. The hotel is in an 500 year old house, with rooms and walls at odd angles. I travel often and this is probably the oldest hotel I've ever stayed at. That being said, with a hotel that old you're not going to get the kinds of amenities which you might be used to, like modern bathrooms and stand up showers. The hotel is in the old part of Braunschweig, so walking around the area is very nice. The breakfast, which was included with my room, was pretty good.
We stayed for 2 nights to visit the Christmas Market. The hotel was lovely, staff friendly and spoke very good English. The hotel is located very close to the centre of town and within easy distance of the rail station. Being one of the oldest buildings in Braunschweig the ceilings are very low in the bedroom and the bathroom is a bit cramped but for a couple of nights this was not a real problem
