Really like villa a lovely property. The pool was the highlight its fantastic also have an outdoor bar. Ive stayed here before and i obviously got a room upgrade as room i stayed in previous wasn't as spacious and it was same price. The staff all very helpful and pleasant.
We enjoyed our stay very much and in particular appreciated all the help we received from the receptionists and Vanessa in the bar. Lovely pool area and very good breakfast. It is necessary to have your own transport.
Fabulous welcome. Beautiful room. Relaxed atmosphere. Delightful breakfast. Lovely pool. Perfectly situated 20 minutes outside Pisa - I would stay here again in a heartbeat!
Beautiful place in the countryside - if you want to run away from crowds choose this place, it is so peaceful and quiet with very helpful and friendly owner.
Property is in the middle of nowhere though, do not expect bars or restaurants around just land. It has beautiful big garden where you can unwind after busy day, restaurant and breakfast is tasty with various sweet options.
Property is well maintained and rooms are spacious and very clean.
Special thanks goes to the owner such a genuine person, he gave some great advises on where to go and what to see. We did have a great time.
Thank you !!

Out in the middle of nowhere with little charm.
Impersonal interaction with most of staff.
Did not seem like a great value compared to other places we stayed.

Always travel with a wine opener...
The hotel is lovely - Tuscany charm, basic but pretty rooms.
But... The kitchen was closed when we arrived although we came within opening hours. We picked the hotel specifically for this reason, we just wanted to eat at the place, have wine. We had to go to a nearby town, only 10 mins, a nuisance though if you have just arrived soaked and ravenous.
As for the breakfast - super basic, no eggs. Not a big thing bit given the price of the room, disappointing.
And finally what got me to write this review was a ridiculous note in the dining area telling you that you are allowed to consume your own food and your own wine in your room, should you need cutlery or bottle opener, they will come at a price and you will be charged for any damage to those loaned goods. The charm's gone now...

stopover
We stayed for one night as a stopover. It was a lovely old building. Full of character. Very nice food and lovely gardens. Breakfast was ok but it was mostly sweet pastries which is very typical. All in all a nice stopover.
Hotel Villa Maya is a traditional building, a farm house from the turn of century. First impressions were reasonable but the room was very dim and cold. We stayed in May so there was no heating and in the evening the room was very cold. The staff were friendly and helpful. We ate at the hotel and although we were the only couple in the dining room, the food was very good. Unfortunately, on returning to our room, there was no hot water and this took about an hour to sort out.
The breakfast the following morning was very poor, everything was prepacked. There was cereal, toast and cakes, no cold meat or eggs.
We thought this hotel had a lot of potential but unfortunately, it was a very disappointing stay.
Lovely hotel, ideally placed for Pisa airport. We booked this primarily for the location and were so impressed with the quality and beauty of the place, we wish we could find similar hotels in England!
Staff were very attentive and spoke excellent English. Although we arrived at 10.45pm, plates of delicious local bread, cheese and warm 'cinque cinque', which is just gorgeous, abit like pollenta plus drinks. A good variety for breakfast, continental style.
We received a warm welcome as we'd called ahead to say we would be arriving around 11pm and were able to persuade the kitchen to make us some sandwiches.
Breakfast was good with plenty of fresh fruit and the surroundings were gorgeous.
My stay at Hotel Villa Maya marked the delightful end to time in the Tuscan countryside. Though it was a bit tricky to find, the hotel and its staff were warm and welcoming. I arrived late, after a filled day in Volterra. The lovely receptionist offfered to prepare a meal and we watched as the Italy / Spain soccer game ended in a tie. After a relaxing breakfast in the hotel's lovely garden, it was an easy drive to the Pisa airport the following morning. My best wishes to others who may choose to stay at the Hotel Villa Maya. My appreciation to the staff of the hotel for their gracious service.
Generally a very good experience. The structure is wonderfully restored and jammed with antique furniture. Our room was air conditioned and everything worked the way it was supposed to. Bed was comfortable. Rooms are small but appropriate size for the venue of what was apparently an old farmhouse not looking like an old mansion. Breakfast in the open air garden was delightful.
The only problem with this hotel is the same one noted in many other reviews, that is, it is EXTREMELY difficult to locate in the countryside. A MUST is to get printed driving directions as well as a detailed map of the NUMEROUS round-a-bouts that are required to be navigated in order to get there. The hotel is actually located fairly close to the motorway but no exit there. Once you get into the general area there are good signs for the hotel but, unless you know what they look like, they are easy to miss. We spent two and a half hours trying to locate the hotel before a friendly native got us going back in the right direction. The hotel was not able to give us good driving directions even after we called them directly, mostly due to our inept Italian and limited English spoken by the receptionist.
We would definitely stay at this hotel again. Be aware that it is out in the country so there is nothing for entertainment in the immediate area.
Nice Hotel. Helpful staff. They quickly got the air conditioner working and recommended an excellent local restaurant for dinner.

The fact that it was in the countryside
The fact that it was in the countryside had it's dissadvantages (the direction we were coming from was difficult to find even with a GPS) and advantages (really quiet - except for the birds - with fresh air). The breakfast was the best we had in all Italy.
