The restaurant was excellent... my husband said it was the best potato dumplings he has had in 3 years in Germany. The staff kept the restaurant open for us even though we arrived late. Like most German hotels, there was no AC so the room was a little hot. The room was really great value for the money overall. Note that the hotel is not in the castle, it is on the grounds.

Lovingly restored Renaissance castle, quiet, well appointed room, good food and friendly people. Happy to come back again any time. Close to Chemnitz, so easy to go into town by car and do business there.

Enchanting gem in an interesting part of Germany
Picked this place on line after looking at some really boring commercial style hotels that were available closer into the center of Chemnitz. Adjacent to a small village and a golf course. Not only is this a hotel, it is also a center for art, both physical and performance. The hotel part wraps around a cobblestone courtyard overlooking a small castle surrounded by a moat. Additional outbuildings hold a silversmith, glass artist and other crafts persons. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The food is outstanding! Breakfast was a full out German spread with meats, cheeses, breads, veggies, and lots of different quarks, jams and the like. Dinner was both outside on a terrace or inside in arched ceiling comfort. Good selection of standard German fare plus regional, fresh ingredients. Wish we could have stayed longer!

A Medieval Treat
The Schlosshotel is located in the building adjacent to the old "water house" pictured in the promotional materials. The hotel staff was very courteous and helpful and the room was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was included and included a wide variety and all seemed to be of very high quality. The restaurant is striking and set in a series of vaulted arches. Besides the restaurant, there are two casual bistros in the complex which are frequented by the golfers who play the complexes course. A very enjoyable stay and a recommended alternative to a conventional motel.

a fabulous place to stay after a long trip
we were very pleased with the service, the room, the incredible breakfast and a staff that went out of their way to help guide us to our destinations... in particular in finding how to get to Colditz Castle a former POW camp for World War II high ranking Allied prisoners....
