Very nice hotel and convenient location. Rooms are clean and comfortable and the front desk staff are friendly and helpful. Lots of L train stops, city bus stops and ride shares make for easy transport around the city. The are many restaurants and theaters within walking distance as well. The only downside is that unlike other chain hotels, there is no continental breakfast. It’s not a huge deal but saving money is always nice and getting your morning coffee without having to trek outside in the cold would be lovely.

It's an old building but this was not a deal breaker... I was assigned a room in the south tower and I unpacked my luggage and was about to leave the room and noticed the door strike plate was flapping away with only 1 screw in it. I went to the front desk and they put me into a new room right away... but this door wouldn't close all the way by itself... you needed to manually ensure it was closed. Everything else (staff, cleanliness, view of the lake, noise levels, air temp) was good. The only other minus was the room was quite dark with no overhead lighting. You needed to leave the bathroom light on to illuminate the room. Overall ... a 3 out of 5

Steve, the doorman was amazing. He went above and beyond to ensure our stay was great. He made sure to offer assistance even when we didn't request any. The room was clean and comfortable. If you are looking for the character and a little history of Chicago you will find it at the Congress Plaza Hotel.
