Almost entirely built on Gallo-Roman foundations, Chissey-lès-Mâcon has the very rare feature of housing two elegant Romanesque churches classified from the 11th & 12th centuries (remarkable heritage wealth), one of which stands in front of the gîte, and enjoys a beautifully preserved landscaped setting, nestled on the wooded foothills of the southern Burgundy massif in the heart of the Clun countryside, in the hollow of a plateau of bucolic meadows, groves & vineyard slopes, surrounded by several wild forests (vast forests state-owned).
