About this property
Po' del Vento 2: a view on Tuscany and Umbria, in a huge park, heated pool...
The property is a 600-metre mountain that extends on one side towards the valley floor and on the other along the ridge of the hill in the direction of Po' del Vento and again towards the other hill.
It is 15 km from the motorway and 12 km from the nearest railway station for day trips to Florence and Rome and back. At the centre of numerous visits between Umbria and Tuscany. In an area completely covered by greenery with endless spaces and a sky full of stars at night.
The real luxury is the vastness, the tranquillity, the breeze that always freshens the air in summer and paradoxically warms it in winter because there is never fog.
Many activities can be enjoyed indoors: next to the house there is a ping pong table and table football available for guests, a little further on there is a heated swimming pool and next to it a children's playground with two swings, a tunnel and a slide.
At the Guest House (600 metres by car, 400 metres on foot through the forest) there is a heated hot tub for six people, a bowling alley and a room full of games for children and adults. Between the two houses starts the fitness trail with 17 stages and 11 pieces of equipment.
Inside the property there are two fishing ponds, a hut where trekking poles, trekking sticks and fishing rods can be found.
A simple and comfortable late 19th-century hunting lodge on two large levels, surrounded by woods and forests, with views over the Val di Chiana and the surrounding towns and hills: from Aquapendente in Lazio to Città della Pieve in Umbria, to Cortona in Tuscany; from Lake Trasimeno in Umbria to Lake Chiusi in Tuscany. A few minutes from Paciano and Moiano.
Typical Tuscan house in stone and wood, simple furnishings,
Entering next door, stairs lead to Po' del Vento 1, into the living room divided by a passage from the kitchen, with a sofa for four, two armchairs, coffee table, table with six chairs.
To the right of the living room is a double bedroom with an extra single bed and a bathroom with shower; to the left is a twin bedroom; at the end of the living room is the door to Po' del Vento 3. It is possible to rent both flats for a holiday with friends or family.
Heating, air conditioning, mosquito nets. WI-FI: BBQ
The breeze cools the day and brings the temperature at night to 20° and 24° C, 65-68F in summer; on the contrary, winter is mild because there is never fog. An ideal microclimate.
There are many species of wild animals on the estate: foxes, deer, hedgehogs, porcupines, wild boar, hares, squirrels and fireflies in June and July. A hawk often hovers above us. A family of barn owls is often seen at night. Robin, jay, hoopoe, green woodpecker, bee-eater and other birds are regular visitors. Pheasants are often released here.
Spring is the flower season and continues into autumn with violets, wild flowers, sunflowers and cyclamens. From the end of September to the beginning of November, many species of mushrooms can be found.
For a unique experience, you can participate in the olive harvest in the last week of October.
At night, do not miss the spectacle of the dark sky crowded with stars; the ISS is often visible to the naked eye.
The surroundings are true masterpieces. Paciano is a fortified medieval village near the magnificent Renaissance town of Panicale. Chiusi is the city of King Porsenna, with Etruscan tombs and an underground city. Montepulciano, the setting for Twilight II, has the most beautiful winery in the world according to Newsweek. Cortona (under the Tuscan sun) has a splendid museum with the oldest lamp in the world (4th century B.C.); Castiglione del Lago, on Lake Trasimeno, has a fortress built by Frederick II that can be reached through the city walls; there is a lovely weekly open-air market, and at Christmas a huge Christmas tree on the lake. A place to admire the sunset is Isola Maggiore, which can be reached by ferry. Sarteano, where a new Etruscan tomb was recently discovered. Cetona has prehistoric caves, and in San Casciano, as in Bagni San Filippo, it is possible to bathe in natural hot springs in both summer and winter. Chianciano has a wonderful thermal centre ....
The regional capital is also wonderful: Perugia and its secret Rocca Paolina.
There is still much to see: Arezzo and Siena with their beautiful antiques markets on the first Sunday of every month, and of course Assisi with its two churches lined up one above the other dedicated to St Francis.
If you stay more than a week, don't miss the Marmore Falls, the highest in Europe, and the Frasassi Caves, the most beautiful cave I have ever seen in my life.
If you want to take a train from Chiusi, you can easily reach Rome and Florence in about an hour.
We have a facebook page where you can find photos of all the activities here and in the surrounding area.
