During the late hours of the evening, when my family and I were waiting, sitting in the lounge area was extremely helpful as it provided some comfort as we waited for our taxi. What we did not particularly find helpful was at breakfast we asked for coffee and the lady took our order but we did not get our coffee after asking twice.

Asked me for a deposit of LKR 100,000 but still wouldn't bill the bar tab to my room, and demanded cash. Only backed off when I asked to speak to the manager. The check in process was also annoying because the key card didn't work on my room door and I had to come back to the front desk. The bell boy delivered my bag to a different room, even though my room number was clearly marked on the tag. After checking out, when the bag was being loaded, I noticed my kit bag side pockets were unzipped and opened in two places.

The concierge promised me a new mercedes S500, then they changed and told me a Range Rover was outside waiting, then I go outside and see an aged Jaguar to drive me to TanGalle. This was terrible and dishonest and downright disorganized. Oh I took my own bags down as I asked them to come and take to car, they seemed too busy. Anyways as I got down to lobby then they tried to take my bags, sorry I'll take my own bags and I'll never come back. Amateurs.

Here's the revised review incorporating the additional details about the breakfast buffet and gluten-free options: My wife and I stopped over at the Shangri-La hotel in Sri Lanka on our way from Australia to the Maldives. We arrived around 11 pm on an Air Sri Lanka flight. If you don't fly business class, expect a long line at customs. After clearing customs, we easily located the Shangri-La desk, where a friendly staff member greeted us. He assisted with our luggage and arranged a cab to the hotel, which was a standard sedan without any hotel branding. The hotel has extensive security, with two checkpoints to pass through before reaching the reception. Check-in was smooth, and the staff's English proficiency was adequate for a 4-5 star hotel in India. Our luggage arrived in the room shortly after, but we had to remind the staff to clearly note our room number. Our room was well-appointed, with four complimentary water bottles, which we greatly appreciated. The strong sandalwood scent was initially overwhelming but became more tolerable over time. The bathroom was nice, although the bathtub was a bit too narrow for my comfort. We were pleased to find a manual bidet installed in the toilet, although an electric and heated version would have been even better. The view from our room and the coffee spot was pretty, albeit industrial, overlooking the water. The espresso met expectations, although I'm admittedly a coffee snob. The breakfast buffet had a wide variety of options,

This hotel does indeed feel like a 'Shangri-La'. Excellent job. Received a tour and a taxi ride from the same hotel driver and he was just great. Fantastic stay. Love Sri Lanka!
