Apparently the hotel has recently changed management, however unfortunately nothing has been updated yet and the hotel room we had was very shabby. All the furniture had sections of veneer missing or chips, the toilet roll holder slightly hanging off, there was black mould in the bathroom, no bath, the curtains had missing curtain hooks and big pulls in them, there were no bedside lights, only one desk light that had an extremely bright daylight bulb in it. There was only a tiny piece of toilet paper left on the roll, I requested more paper I was told they couldn’t find any as no one knew where the key was for the cupboard, someone did eventually bring down an industrial sized roll designed for a public toilet dispenser, which is what we were left with for the entirety of the stay.
We had dinner in the restaurant one night and unfortunately they were busy with a “launch event” for the new management. This meant that we were very much ignored. Again we were told, “we’re busy and it’s new management” and the lady running the restaurant was very apologetic though.
I hate complaining, and really don’t do it often, but I worked many years in hospitality in the past and during our short stay at The George there was just a continuous catalogue of poor service and poor quality experience, which is such a shame as the hotel has really potential with a beautiful stream and garden out the back.
