Literally right next to the train and walkable all over the adorable and friendly city of Essen. The hotel bar was a relaxing spot too, and breakfast was great.

I was very pleased with the hotel. I was attending the Eras Tour concert in the nearby Gelsenkirchen and this hotel, located right by the Essen Hbf provided convenient accommodation for me after the concert. The room was spacious and had all the necessary amenities. Most importantly, there is air-conditioning, which is a rare find in Europe. I was glad I picked this hotel as during my stay the weather was quite hot. The breakfast was extraordinary with bread, fruits, cereals, eggs and sausages as well as all kinds of beverages. You can also get a great view of the street if you sit by the window. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for its location and rooms quality.

Perfect for a Veltins Arena concert
Perfect for a concert at Veltins Arena. The hotel is directly across the street from the train station- 10 minutes by train to GelsenKirchen, then a tram goes directly to the stadium. In Essen- there is a pedestrian area with shopping & restaurants just around the corner. The hotel was clean, rooms were comfortable, breakfast was great, staff were friendly. My only complaint was our room was in the part of the hotel that used to be the smoking section & it still smelled a little like smoke. Not enough to be a problem for us, but if you’re sensitive- be sure to request a room that was not a smoking room at one time.

We had a wonderful two night stay. I was traveling my 12 year old daughter and it could not have been more conveniently located. Directly opposite the main station in Essen. Located in a lovely restaurants and shopping area. Rooms was modern, spacious, and super clean. Felt very safe.

Great hotel, fast internet (free), aircon excellent, staff very helpful - right next to Essen Hauptbanhof. Area around the hotel felt sketchy at night but otherwise very satisfied with the Handelhof.

You're not coming to Essen for the culture or scenery (or if you are then you've got different tastes to me) but for the Messe conference centre this is perfect. It's clean, comfortable and the staff are very professional. Got a nice bar, and the breakfast is good. I've stayed here 10 times and will definitely return - highly recommended.
