This is a very special apartment in the old town section of Forcalquier. Its history is evident in the beautifully restored details —both inside and out— of original stone, wood and tile, but with all new upgraded amenities. If you are looking to experience the charming character at the heart of the “Vieux Village,” this stay is for you! Very well situated behind the main cathedral in the city center, it’s walking distance to bars, restaurants, shops, boulangeries, and art galleries. The historic Citadel is a short hike up cobblestone alleyways on the hill above. There is an epicerie for grocery needs a few blocks away, as is the Monday morning market. Allison’s kitchen is fully equipped, including a patio as plus since many “maisons-village” do not have private exterior space. One word of caution for all ancient French townhouses: stairs can be irregular, narrow and steep, but in our opinion only adds to an authentic experience, as you are reliving hundreds of years of history. Allison is a gracious multilingual host and an excellent resource for English speaking visitors. The location provided both accessibility to the heart of town and privacy all in one. Very high recommendations!
