This beautiful charming 400 year old converted farmhouse is situated in one of the oldest villages in Gozo close to the capital of Victoria (1km). The house is perfectly positioned on the edge of the village but still close to the village core and overlooks a landscape of fields past San Dimitri chapel, towards the lighthouse and on to the Mediterranean sea. On a clear day you can see Sicily in the distance....
Step inside to a peaceful relaxing haven away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy the relaxing and social areas of the house and garden. It is perfect both for groups and couples alike.
The property has been in the family for over 30 years. Originally converted in the 70's by the head designer of Dartington Glass, the present owner and her family have taken great care to restore the house over the years by retaining its original simplicity and rustic charm while adding the modern conveniences. This year we have invested further in the property to make it more comfortable still with aircons in each bedroom, new bathroom, pool overhaul and other new modcons including barbecue. If you like the contemporary, it is not for you, rather it offers a simplicity retaining the old floor tiles and flagstones and stone walls while still offering all the mods and cons. It offers an authentic comfortable Gozo experience including the crickets in the palm trees, lizards in the garden, dragonflies around the pool and beautiful plants around the house.
The house itself is only a 5 minute walk to the food stores and restaurants and if feeling particularly lazy the bread man, veg man, fish man and drinks man visit the square in their vans.
The house enjoys a beautiful swimming pool designed by present owner and inspired by her travels to Thailand. The mature garden provides a perfect natural umbrella with its mature palm trees allowing for a respite from the sun and lovely entertainment space with a large old cable table seating 12 guests and another Indian marble table seating 6 and a barbecue.
For safety reasons the pool area is cordoned off very tastefully and practically with a wooden fence that runs along one side of the pool area making it safe for children and a blessing for parents who can relax while eating their lunch in the garden and not having to look up every minute to check on the children.
There is a housekeeper, pool man and gardener who look after the house. The housekeeper can also provide additional cleaning during your holiday and there is also babysitting if required.
The owner is English/Maltese and is happy to advise on any additional holiday requirements. She writes a local restaurant guide - The Definitive(ly) Good Guide to Restaurants in Malta & Gozo -www.restaurantsmalta.com and the Malta Baby & Kids Directory - www.maltababyandkids.com and organises local Artisan Markets on the islands - www.maltaartisanmarkets.com and so is the perfect person to ask advise on dining out and anything to do with children in Malta and Gozo or arts and crafts and also is the curator of Offbeat Malta Food Trails www.offbeatmaltafoodtrails.com an exclusive private history of Malta food tour of Valletta.
This unique house has been featured in two design magazines.
