Pristine bach across from a beautiful beach
The photos accurately portray this bach - it was immaculate and equipped with everything we needed. There was plenty of outdoor space and car parking. We loved the comfortable couches, decor and location. It is a quick drive from the city of Gisborne and just a 2 minute walk to a stunning beach. Down the road is a friendly family run dairy that had everything we needed (the fresh fruit ice creams were delicious). Communication from the host was excellent. Highly recommended.

Relaxed Stay at Relax@Wainui
Relax@Wainui was just perfect for our family of 4 (2 adults, 9yo and 3yo). The house was very clean and nicely renovated to make it a fresh, light and comfortable place to stay. It was spacious enough for the four of us, and had plenty of space/storage for our belongings. The outdoor shower was great for rinsing off after visiting the beach (access directly across the road), and the supply of beach towels were appreciated (not something we had room to pack coming from overseas). The weather turned while we were staying in the area, thanks to Cyclone Hale, but Andrew’s place was quiet (the rain and gusty wind could barely be heard) and the books, games and puzzles provided a pleasant distraction. Andrew was very friendly and easy to communicate with. The chocolates and wine on check-in were a thoughtful touch. Thanks for your hospitality, Andrew!

Perfect location as we enjoy swimming and walks along beach everyday especially enjoyed track - Makorori headland. Outstanding break at Okitu
We escaped from the madness that can be Christmas and had a very chill time at this very stylish and comfortable holiday home. It had everything we needed to just reconnect as a family, and unwind. Loved everything about it! (Including the 20 Questions game we found in the games cupboard.) Appreciated the great supply of coffee and chocolate too. A very special holiday for us.

Outstanding Okitu (Gisborne)
What a great holiday bach! We received a welcome pack, chocolate, wine and greeting card, welcoming us to our stay, with selection of milk, tea, coffee, filter coffee and pod coffee. One thing we look for is a concise information pack and Andrew provided this. Good information about facilities at the property and local amenities, especially the local grocery and café in the area. There was a selection of local guide information as well. The property was immaculately clean, well stocked with linen you require, bathroom & beach towels, all you require for kitchen utensils to make your stay perfect! Clothes washing and dryer facilities available and WiFi easy to connect and fast – no issues. 😊 Perfectly located for beach access crossing SH35 (which is quiet to cross) with a short walk down stairs to a fabulous beach. The bach is conveniently located to be a good distance from Gisborne, but within easy reach – the drive takes about 10 mins by car, where bigger grocery stores are easily located.

The location was lovely with great sea views. Handy to all of the beaches and main township. It was comfortable, homely and great for using as a base to visit local family and friends. The kitchen was well equipped for a medium term stay. The welcome pack was lovely to find upon arrival, with clear information also provided. I will definitely book to stay again on my next visit to Gisborne.

Amazing house, awesome location!
Myself and my 3 kids(15,13,10) stayed at this Mediterranean 2 bedroom home. It was perfect for us as they are keen (beginner) surfers so to be across the road from Wainui beach, was so great for us. Location is excellent, convenience store down the road, town is a quick 10 minute drive. The interior finish on this home has been done with excellence. Practicality and function within and out made our stay so easy. As an interior designer, no corner was cut for this home. Beautiful job! From the time we walked into the home, we were welcomed with some very yummy local treats and Andrew was so helpful with answering my ‘tourist’ q’s. Thanks so much for a memorable stay for myself and my kids. 5 stars!

Gisborne glory
If you want a winter break away from a cold, wet place like Palmerston North (bless its damp little woolly socks), head east by north to Gisborne. We took a July break and had a glorious time. Gisborne and its region is packed with exactly the sorts of things we love doing. This trip (and there will be others in future) was mostly walks, interspersed with good coffee at Gisborne's cafes. We stayed at Utiku Beach, and I mean at the beach. You walked across the road (speed limit 60km/h, not some superhighway thundering trucks all night), ambled through a thin strip of grassy marine reserve planted with pohutukawa, and bingo, there was the beach. That lovely gold-pinky-brown Gisborne sand, and brave surfers black exclamation points out on the waves. In the waves, when they slipped off. We were brave, and paddled. You have to get sand between your toes at the beach, even in winter. A short walk along the beach (turn left out the front door) took us up a headland with glorious views. To the left was a long sandy beach with creamy surf breaking out on the reef, to the right was "our" beach, leading back to Gisborne, and out in front was wild blue yonder, all the way to South America. Back to the bach to pack a picnic lunch. Warm and welcoming, with the heat pump chugging away, and an easy modern kitchen, comfortable beds and couches, and rain water! I'll say that again, rain water. Tea actually tastes like the tea of your childhood when you use rain water, and your hair is soft and shiny and so happy after a rain-water shampoo. We went north to more beaches and walks (Tolaga Bay wharf, and then the two-hour walk out to Cook's landing place), but the place I'd really recommend for a damp winter afternoon is the national arboretum. Gisborne has a national arboretum, I hear you ask? Indeed it does. Follow the signs for Rere Falls (worth a look, even in rain). The arboretum is acres of trees, mostly deciduous and under bare poles at this time of year, but you get hold of a tree's soul when it isn't all covered in leaves. We walked for several hours (the place has a myriad of tracks, all easy and many wheelchair friendly), and the trees kept off the light drizzle and the wet smelled wonderful, warm and growing even in winter. The light effects were amazing as sunlight broke through clouds. When it rained, and yes, people, this is New Zealand, this is winter, it will rain, bank on it... when it rained too hard for comfortable adventuring, we went home to
