On a cold November weekend, our group of six adults could only pry ourselves from the property to acquire supplies and hit one (excellent) hiking trail. This is a great home and escape for a large group.
Despite the soaring ceilings and spaciousness, JD's home felt warm and welcoming. A modern heating system and two fireplaces (gas + wood) kept the entire place cozy. Living in NYC, we simply luxuriated in the space: spending waaaaaay too much time in the well-sorted roomy kitchen: some attending to various complex meals, others lounging in one of the airy sitting rooms, and at least one person cursing at the screen in the game room.
We were blessed with a couple light snowfalls, setting the mood and encouraging us to keep the fires blazing. We could have hit more hiking trails, but we were happy enough just cutting out the usual routine while coming together is such a nice space. The eclectic decor only enhanced the feeling of being away and apart.
JD is a fantastic host: rapid, thorough communication and very much focused on pleasing his guests. Upon arrival we noticed an issue with the stove/range. JD responded immediately, arranging contact with his handyman who, though providing a logical reason and method to resolve (which was indeed correct), also offered to drop in personally. Problem solved and no other issues.
Warm weather would allow full enjoyment of the lake; however, even in the winter this is a wonderful place to stay and relax. The lake is still lovely, with morning mist rewarding early-risers. Close to town, yet feeling secluded. Highly recommended.
