Our room wasn't ready for us checking at 7pm
We just arrived at the hotel after flying from the UK, we waited for the shuttle from the airport for over an hour to finally arrive after 7pm to check in. The hotel was really busy dealing with conferences and the receptionist told us to sit and wait for our room as it's not clean yet. After over 30mins wait we were offered a double room instead of a twin we booked, or wait even longer due to the conferences. We finally got our room key about 9pm. The food, staff and room all fine at the hotel but we felt like our booking didn't count as we are 1 room and the conference matter more as they had hundreds of rooms. Wouldn't stop here again or recommend it to anyone, unless it was for a conference and not a leisure visit or stop over as this is the only type of customers that this hotel are bothered about.

My stay was very pleasant except for the annoying power cut which resulted in me being moved to another room as I was too close to the noisy back up generator that had to be activated. The staff was quick to apologies and made the room transfer with no hassle what so ever.

Good but needs improvement.
Even though I made the booking with Hotels.com (and paid) over three months before my stay, the hotel had no record of me when I arrived. After a long day, this was irritating and unnecessary. After about half an hour, the management agreed to provide a room against a credit card imprint, and from then on, the stay was pretty good. By the time I left, an e-mail had been sent to me home PC confirming that the booking was found and that no additional extra would be taken. This aspect needs to be tidied up. The location is a busy conference centre on an extensive site, so golf carts take guests to and from reception.When I was leaving, I called for a cart but seven calls and two and a half hours later, I walked ten minutes to reception to check out, with no cart in evidence. I had agreed that in the circumstances, this "late" check-out was not a problem. Luckily, I was in no hurry to hit the road, so no harm done, but if I had been leaving for the airport, I would have been stressed! Needs a little polishing, but I would certainly stay there again.

I have been staying at The Birchwood when arriving/departing on my annual visit to South Africa for the past 15 years. During this time it has grown in status and stature every year providing comfort, convenience, beauty, safety and friendly service all at 5 star level and a reasonable price. This year was no exception. I would not consider anywhere else. Looking forward to next year and more after that.

Interesting stay
The stay was interesting. I was surprised at the size of the hotel. The room is clean and neat. The staff is friendly and counter service efficient. It was the first time I was carted around in a golf cart between my room and the main building. It was fine but I can imagine that it may be cold in winter. I would like to recommend that you put up a notice board / map which indicates the location of venues that also clearly display which workshops / conferences are held in each venue.

Good choice for a night
I just stay 1 night. I choose this hotel because it is near the airport, there was a shuttle from and to the airport and the shopping center. But the room was not as it may be at the reservation. No aircon, 2 beds but no 1 queen size... But the reception could change the room, but we had preferred to stay in our room

It was a good stay. The noise was just terrible at night. There was a baby screaming for 3 hours non-stop, and the other guests were very roudy when returning to their rooms. As we were doing a cycle race early the next morning, this was very disturbing as it kept us from getting a good nights sleep. Service at reception was excellent.

Great stay
I attended a two day workshop there, the room was very comfortable, i like the idea of a lockable closet. The hotel offers porter transport around the yard, which makes it easy to get around especially when you are unfamiliar with surroundings.

Room paid in full for king size bed before arrival. On arrival was told there were no king size beds available. Bath hose attachment in need if repair. Leaking caused floor to flood. Non smoking room with strong smell of cigarette smoke. Never again.
