Old-world rustic charm Queenslander, 30 km North of Mackay on Bruce Highway

Our house is a high-set 'Queenslander' with old-world rustic charm. The house is at Kuttabul, on a 1000 sq metre block. Kuttabul is about 30 Km North of Mackay. I love looking up at the night sky at the amazing massive stars shining brightly at Kuttabul. I love how most of the rooms in the house have 3-meter-high ceilings and timber floors. It is an uncluttered space with minimum furniture, so it's quite spacey. Guests have access to a private living room, kitchen, and sunroom (with a small table and 4 chairs for dining). The master bedroom has a view of Mt Blackwood. It has a comfortable double bed, bedside table and lamp, a large built-in wardrobe, and a renovated ensuite with shower, handbasin, and toilet. When three or four guests have booked to stay, there is a second bedroom with an inflated queen-size double-height mattress and one single-bed mattress on the floor. Guests who stay in the second bedroom will need to bring their sheets, pillows, and blankets as only the master bedroom has bedding provided. The second bedroom should not be used when only two guests are staying. The living room has a large timber TV cabinet with a new 32" TV and a comfortable old 2-seater couch where you can sit back, relax, and watch TV. The TV cabinet also has two computer nooks, consisting of sturdy shelves at desk height where you can sit and set up your laptop. Unfortunately, there is no WIFI yet but we are working on setting it up as soon as possible. The sunroom has a small table and four chairs where you can eat your meals and enjoy the pleasant view of palms in the large front yard with Mt Blackwood in the distance. The kitchen is quite large, complete with an electric stove top and oven and plenty of bench space and cupboards. You will find saucepans, a frying pan, cutlery, and crockery enough for four people. There is a 'bar' fridge with a small freezer space. The second bathroom is locked and should not be used. Guests will have access to the large yard with a lovely view of hills, trees, and a sugar cane plantation. The floorboards have a few scratches, and there's a bit of chipped paint on some of the walls, so, it's more like an old farmhouse than a polished shiny palace. It is a two-storey house but our guests will only have access to the top level. The first level is occasionally occupied. The house is set back about 40 meters from the Bruce Highway (one lane each way) so you will hear cars and the occasional truck passing by. There is a small grocery store and petrol station about 100 m from the house. The store also sells sandwiches and hot fast food etc. Marian shopping centre is just a 10-minute drive South. Mackay City is about a 30 Km drive South. Beautiful Cape Hillsborough and Seaforth beaches are about a 30-minute drive from Kuttabul.
During your stay at this holiday home, you'll be within walking distance of Hermitage Nature Refuge. A kitchen and a stovetop are available in the holiday home.
  • Air-conditioned home with kitchen, living room and fridges
  • Just a 2-minute drive from Hermitage Nature Refuge and 13 minutes from Mount Jukes Nature Refuge

Disliked: Cleanliness, property conditions & facilities
Water was turned off and no response from owners on how to fix it until many hours later. Stairs unsafe - one very rotten and hand rail very loose and wobbly. Shower water pressure so low it was actually ridiculously hard to get wet and wash your body, let alone your hair. Garden very unkept. Not rustic but old and mismatched decor.
