Conveniently Located
The Bear's Den is minutes from Lake Lure Beach, Chimney Rock State Park, and the village. Lake Lure was ranked by National Geographic Magazine as one of the top scenic lakes in the world. There are water sport rental options (kayaks, wakeboards, boats, etc.) and pontoon tours of the lake.
The iconic Chimney Rock, for which the village and State Park are named, was featured in Arthur Frommer's Sept/Oct 2012 issue of Budget Travel magazine. The park received the platinum award for Favorite State Park in Blue Ridge Country’s 2013 Best of the Mountains travel poll, with voting every five years and covering seven southern states in the Appalachian Mountains. Several excellent golf courses are nearby, including Apple Valley Golf Course, Bald Mountain Golf Course, and Etowah Valley Country Club and Golf Resort, which Golf Digest rated as one of the top 50 golf destinations in the US.
If you enjoy scenic drives, head out of Lake Lure on Alt 74 (curvy and scenic Memorial Highway) through Chimney Rock Village, Bat Cave, Gerton, Fairview, toward Asheville to pick up what many consider the most beautiful length of road in this country, the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you have not traveled this stretch of road, it is something to add to your bucket list. Actor Norman Reedus of The Boondock Saints and The Walking Dead fame featured the parkway on a 2016 episode of his AMC TV series Ride with Norman (Appalachia: Blue Ridge Parkway, Season 1 Episode 3). Just 1.25 hours from the home and five miles off the parkway is Maggie Valley, home to the Wheels Through Time transportation museum that features rare American motorcycles, memorabilia, and a distinct array of unique one-off American automobiles.
This home is centrally located just 15 minutes from Bat Cave, 35 minutes from Hendersonville, 50 minutes from Asheville, and about 2 hours from Charlotte, North Carolina. Also nearby are Pisgah National Forest (less than 1 hour from Lake Lure), which has over 500,000 acres of protected forest, and DuPont State Recreational Forest (1.25 hours from Lake Lure) with over 10,000 acres. These forests feature hundreds of miles of hiking, biking, and horse trails, exquisite waterfalls, and beautiful mountaintop views. If you and/or your children are fans of The Hunger Games book and movie, a scene with Katniss and Gale was shot at the Pisgah National Forest. A few small but significant scenes were also filmed at the DuPont State Recreational Forest.
The Lake Lure/Chimney Rock is conveniently situated for outdoor adventure, including horseback riding, tubing, water sports, and hiking; museums and theater; the Biltmore Estate and Village; shopping and restaurants; and so much more. If you visit once, we are confident you’ll return again and again for the rest, beauty, fun, comfort, and hospitality. We hope to see you soon and look forward to you being our guest!

AREA WIDE NOTICE: Lake Lure will undergo a drawdown from January 1st, 2025, through the first quarter of 2025 (March 31st). The lake will begin to be lowered by approximately 1 foot per day until 12 feet have been reached. Infrastructure maintenance, dredging, and dam projects will be expedited during this time frame. These efforts by the Town of Lake Lure may affect access to the lake and restrict any lake usage. For more information, click here. The lake will likely be back up to normal levels by mid to late April. While we understand this is an inconvenience, this does allow you to enjoy the full beauty of Lake Lure in the fall and holiday season. This will not affect the smaller lakes in the area, only Lake Lure itself.
