The staff were very friendly and helpful, even separating our twin beds in the middle of the stay, as I was sharing with my son. The room service was very good, as my son indicated the burger and chips and sticky toffee pudding were excellent. The laundry service was affordable and fast, which was much appreciated. The only thing that was a bit peculiar was that the shower curtain would stick to your body as your showered, as it was too short. The shower would cause a bit of negative air pressure, which would cause the curtain to stick to you. Perhaps in future, the hotel would consider longer shower curtains. Anyhow, overall the stay was really nice, and the area surrounding it is quite lovely.

Tavistock ok hotel

Stayed 2 nights. Close to all tourist spots. Lobby elegant looking but upstairs hallways dark and simple. Room 240 was fine, had everything you need for sleeping. King size bed. no air conditioning and a refrigerator in room although there is a desktop rotating fan. Plenty of tv stations. I asked for a quiet room and our view was of inside rooftop courtyard surrounding other hotel windows. Room was ok overall. Room rate did not cover breakfast that was extra £. Plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. Not sure if I would return, it was a convenient location and pretty clean. Staff were polite.

Dismal, depressing and overheated.

I specifically paid extra for a room overlooking the square. They insisted on giving me an 'upgrade' as it had a king bed instead of two singles. The 'upgrade' turned out to be the same price as I paid but tucked away in a corner overlooking a university classroom instead of the garden square. As a woman travelling alone I suppose I should be glad that it was not the bins or a brick wall. Those are the usual options. Clearly we are meant to stay at home by the fire.Despite the radiator being off, the room was boiling hot and I had to sleep on top of the duvet rather than under it. The room was drab and depressing. The old carpets need replacing with a hygienic hard floor, the shower had two options as you had to mix it - boiling or freezing. The bath was minute and it was too short and too narrow for me though I am only 5ft. tall.Handy for bathing a toddler though. Basically it is a 1950s hotel. I would have given it one star but the first receptionist was nice. Do not be seduced by the good locatiion like me. If you can afford it, spend another £30 and get something decent. For a hotel which claims eco credentials I have no idea why the heating was blasting out despite the weather having got warmer. I was on the 7th floor and for the three days one of the lifts was out of order.

Fabulous location, and a nice quiet area at night. Easily walkable to Oxford street/theatre district and Regents Park. Having previously lived in London, I think this is a great place to base yourself for a visit. Easy close proximity to Kings Cross and Euston- meaning Northern and Victoria tube lines are easily accessible. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent too.
