Affordable, comfortable and clean.
The hotel was in a convenient location and offered off-street parking. The staff was polite and helpful. The rooms are former one-bedroom apartments and are a bit older but quite large for entertaining and cooking of meals if you would like to stay at home instead of eating out. The furniture in the living room needed to be changed out, but the bed was very comfortable. The shower was hot and had good water flow. If you’re disabled, it would be difficult to enter the building and get into the room because you have to go up stairs. Bring your own water because there is not a purifier on the tap.

The price for this location was excellent. I was just staying the night for a surgery the following morning so it was perfect for me. If you wanted a spacious and quiet place right in the heart of Third Street Promenade and near the Santa Monica Pier and didn’t mind that it was old and run down and didn’t look nice and has old and pretty broken down furniture,,, for like half the price or better than nearby decent hotels,,, then this place is perfect! Staff was nice, helpful and courteous.

Loved everything about Cal Mar 2 min walk to the beach or 5 min to Montana Street high-end Melrose type boutiques, fine dining 10 min to Santa Monica pier! Carlos check me in and was nice friendly very welcoming and Rose checked me out SUPER sweet and great end to my lovely visit! Hopefully next time i get a early check! Definitely recommend to my Sister and our cousins when they visit in April! Can’t wait to go back! Thanks Rose and Carlos and Cal Mar suits!

This is a former apt. building so the rooms are apartments. Very spacious. Had living room and dining table a and a small kitchen, 2 TV's. A small pool. About 3 blocks form the beach and close to Santa Monica Pier. Restaurants weren't that close.

Not worth the money.
Very uncomfortable!!!! There was old moldy food in the fridge!!!! Dirty dishes in the sink. The blinds did not work they were taped together. Not worth the $560 a night I spent.

We loved our stay! The staff is so helpful and polite. Rooms are spacious and clean, it's like staying in an apartment. I absolutely love the quiet little swimming pool, with a beautiful garden surrounding it. Location can not be beat! This is a gem of a hotel; it is not a newer place or upscale, but if you are looking for a place with a full kitchen, near the beach and a quiet atmosphere- Cal Mar is the perfect spot!

If you love the 70s Hotel California vibe (I do), this is a must stay. Spacious, clean but non-updated lodgings. Helpful housekeeping. Very memorable stay! One shabby screen hung irreparably on the window.
