Main areas look grandiose. Bedroom was clean but in grim condition. Breakfast would have been fine except for the fact that the aircon was on so fast and cold (in mid Oct!) which meant you couldn’t eat your the food before it was stone cold. For some reason l couldn’t get any service on my mobile in our room and wasn’t prepared to pay extra for their WiFi (they offered free WiFi in main hotel areas. Staff were pretty much the only savings grace for this place.

Opted for room without window as it was cheaper and only for one night. Was really warm during the night, next time i would definitely opt to have a window.

At least my third time staying at the Britannia Manchester. Centrally located, a beautiful restoration of a former warehouse/factory, good morning breakfasts, helpful staff. My only gripe is that one has to pay extra for wi-fi in one's room. Otherwise, an excellent, convenient stay and I'll definitely stay there again next time I'm in Manchester.

Rude staff
Booked this hotel for my husbands birthday. We were really looking forward to a night away as a family with 3 children we do not get out much. I booked a suite and on arrival we had what seemed to be a family room with lots of beds in. I asked reception if this was right to be told that's all you get and if you don't like it then email this and got given an email. I left it at that and continued my night. Upon returning to the hotel after going to see Peter Kay we returned at 11pm. They had security on the door and I was asked "do you have your key card" I said yes thinking they were just checking we had it and carried on walking to my room where 2 men stopped me saying I need to tell them my room number and name. This was very intimidating and I felt like I was being interrogated while other guests of the hotel could freely just walk in. I was alone at this point also as my husband was over the road at the shop. No one stopped him when he came in. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. I haven't even completed my stay and dread to think what checkout will be like.

Rude staff on check in. Check out time 10am… they decided to fit new carpet in the stairs at 10am shutting the staircase. That left most of the hotel guests to queue to use two tiny very slow lifts.

It wasn’t the horror story I was expecting after reading other comments. It was a convenient location, a reasonably priced city centre hotel room for one night. I did not try any of the food but all the staff was great, there was a 24 hour security guard on the door which makes it feel safe. My room was quiet, the shower had good water pressure. I would stay here again when in Manchester.

3-Star Comfort in the heart of Manchester
Being a cash-free premises, everything is charged to your credit card. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The heating in our room didn't work so they gave us a portable radiator which heated up the room perfectly. We quickly ran out of tea and coffee but the refills were free and on demand. Worth three stars definitely.

Room Cancellation
I arrived at the hotel slightly earlier than my check in time so left my luggage in storage and explained I would be back around 10pm to check in. On my return I was told that my room had been cancelled because no prepayment had been made and attempted payment from my card had been declined. No email, phonecall or consulatation..... just straight cancelled the room. Unlucky 'Thankfully' there was 1 room still available in the hotel which I was able to book which was not dissimilar to a prison cell, and avoid sleeping on the street

Fort Knox level of security
Upon arriving at the hotel, we couldn’t even check in without being spoken to by security. When we told him that we wished to check in, he proceeded to allow us into the reception, slightly overdramatic if you ask me. When we returned to come back to our room from our evening out, we were asked for our room numbers at the front door before being allowed re entry to the hotel and security were ticking off our names from a list like we were cattle at a farm. It makes me think that they are hiding the Crown Jewels in the basement, otherwise why is this level of security necessary. Apart from the security, when we entered the room we found towels in the bathroom that you could use to sand down wood, and the water pressure was like a baby’s dribble. There was also a breeze coming through the closed window which was covered in bird excrement, Kim Woodburn would not have been amused. All in all, if you’re only going for one evening and can deal with airport style security to check in and re enter the hotel, this may be a suitable choice for you.
