I did not have a comforter in the room and for the first night, I felt uncomfortable. The following night, I asked for a comforter and they provided me with two blankets. Thankyou to the staff for being so responsive.

I liked everything about this hotel, except the lighting in the bathroom. The lighting is terrible and it is impossible to put make up on.

This is our sixth time staying here and in between we have tried other hotels but we keep coming back to the New Yorker. The only downside this time was that the in room television was not working and although their engineer tried to fix it, he couldn’t get it to work

I love historic hotels and appreciate ones like The New Yorker that are modernized just enough to enjoy the stay as much as the history. Note- it can be a bit chilly in the winter due to operable windows that are not air tight.

Staff lovely, great for the price, tiny room

For the price and location, it's a good. Rooms are not spacious, which I think is the age of the building. The place has wear and tear, but in a very charming way. My main complaint is that the shower drain was clogged and I ended up with athlete's foot from standing in the drain water that built up through my shower. Everything else was very clean.

Good Location and Looks Hiding a Nasty Surprise

It's pretty clear to me that this hotel coasts by on location and a friendly outer appearance. Check in and check out were fast and easy, but beyond that it's terrible. The room lights were dingy, only the bedside lamp had any decent brightness, the bathtub was stained and moldy, and the staff were only superficially helpful.They'll direct you to where you need to go and do absolutely nothing beyond that. I tried asking for a wake-up call since I had an early morning train to catch, and despite confirming it at night, they didn't call in the morning. And watch out for their 'resort fee', I don't mind a hotel charging a bit extra to maintain their facilities, but the New Yorker doesn't charge a 'bit' extra, they charged a third of the room cost. At that price it's clear that it's less a resort fee and more a way to make their room prices appear cheaper when comparing to other hotels, at least in my opinion. And when brought up with reception the staff became belligerent dismissing any issues as 'every hotel here does it', which is one of the worse excuses it's possible to give, don't settle for the same thing as everyone else, just be better.

The lobby is beautiful. The front desk staff wasn’t the nicest but they weren’t rude. The hallways smelled of marijuana and were run down. The room had what was needed but wouldn’t be my first choice due to the older age and clear smudge marks on the doors and walls.

The checking was smooth and comforting. I was upgraded to the junior suite atop the 25th floor with a once of a lifetime panoramic view. Very cleaned suite. I was disappointed, however, about the bathroom toilet which was ancient. Quite low to be precise. The hotel itself does not have a restaurant where one can eat buffet style breakfast. They do have two connecting restaurant. Quite pricey for certain. Good was okay.

Great Stay

The hotel's facade and lobby are simply old school gorgeous! Clearly a lot of history here. Our check-in was swift, and the man who checked us in was thoughtful and kind. Unfortunately, the heater in our initial room was broken, and it took some time to get a manager then maintenance in there. It could not be repaired with us in the room, but the maintenance guy said the front desk would call us shortly with the new room number. After an hour wait in a room that was actually colder than next to the front doors in the lobby (I never took off my coat, hat, or scarf), I called the front desk. I had to come down. Agh. Miscommunication there someplace, and we were FREEZING. But we got a very nice alternate room on the same floor, and we were very happy with that (heater AND a better view AND more room!) Central to Manhattan, across the street from Starby's and Liberty Bagel, attentive staff, and excellent restaurants right on the premises! Will stay here again when in Manhattan.
