Attic room - no room to walk around bed as chair was in the way - we moved it to door to feel more spacious in room as felt quite small. Enamel on bath was chipped and lumpy pillows. We thought we had booked bigger room but it just increased bed size apparently .

Disappointing Stay

Booked this for husbands 50th birthday celebrations, checked in and got to room which was bit dated but clean and we were advised rooms were cleaned between 12 and 4pm daily. There were clean towels but no surplus toilet rolls for 3 night stay. We went out on first full day around 9.15am to come back to hotel around 8.15pm to an uncleaned room apart from one bin emptied and nothing else done but as we still had clean towels we let this slide. Went out next day around 11am to return about 4pm to totally uncleaned room again, bins with rubbish, no clean towels, bed not made, again no toilet rolls. The cleaner came around 4.15pm to ask if there is anything we need but husband explained about the room not being cleaned since we arrived and she said we will do it properly the following morning which was the day we would be leaving and check out was 11am anyway. This kind of spoilt our stay and husband went to complain at reception to be told we could move rooms if we wanted but by that time we were both really disappointed so decided to leave and return home. We have stayed previously with no problems but this was a special birthday and now feel we would not stay here again.

Fantastic

Fantastic experience. Was able to get checked in early. Bonus. Spent some time in the complimentary spa. And a fab night relaxing for a well earned rest to rewind and recharge. Highly recommended!!

Grnersly vrry good with spacious room, but bathroom a bit faded and with fixed shower head and bath with no taps it was hard to wash hair etc. Breakfast ok and adequate.

Location of the hotel was great. The room was sufficient for what we needed and the breakfast was great. The pool area on the other hand was not the best. It was dated and very dirty. If not using the pool though, I would recommend the hotel

The Newcastle staff were so great. Jessica checked us in and took the time to recommend a museum and show us how to get there on the map. Anna very cheerfully stored our bags for us while waiting for the train. Everyone so friendly. Hotel is a big worm but very clean and the spa/pool excellent (we went both in the evening and next morning!). Pleased to find we’d been upgraded and the room was about big enough for a herd of bison. All great value for money and we loved our stay.

A lovely stay

The superior room was huge Obviously the building is,175 years old so is a little tired but beautiful. It is clean and the staff are so pleasant and,welcoming. The breakfast was amazing, hot and freshly cooked. The only negative i would say is the leisure centre which could do with updating in the changng rooms. Also a little dangerous having to walk up and down wet stairs between pool and changimg rooms. Would definitely stay here again.
