Wow -what a fabulous property. The Sonder Rideau is my new fav hotel in Ottawa. Spotlessly clean, wonderful staff, massive room, and a fraction of the cost of a regular hotel. Highly recommend!

Good location to walk to most tourist sites. Clean but no bathroom fan (personal preferance) in the morning ask staff recommendation for breakfast. She suggested the Tim Hortons next door (which is part of the building with an access door to the hotel). We went to the Tim Hortons and it was closed. Room was usual for regular hotel noise until Saturday night when a group outside, across the street in a vacant lot was very loud and noisy. The swear jar would be full as every third word was foul (f##k). Staff did nothing to address this issue. I will chose another hotel next time I am in Ottawa

Beds were comfortable, but layout of suite was terrible, and furniture was less than ideal. Couldn't properly see the TV from the sofa - had to rearrange furniture to watch it. Beside tables in MBR were small and short with no drawers. Bedside lamps in bedroom were not proper bedside lamps - far too low to shine light on a book. No dresser (or TV) in MBR.

The rooms were nice, and at a good price. It was also nice that you needed a code to get in the hotel and to use an elevator. However, you don’t get any “extras” with this hotel: no room service, no maid service (unless you request it), and all accommodations were minimal. My room was clean, but my friend had a room in which all the surfaces were sticky. I had no hand towels, and the bath towels seemed old and scratchy. The furniture in the room was also scratched up. But I liked how it felt like I was staying in an apartment building, not a hotel.

My only gripe with the place is the third party parking they use is absolutely ridiculous. It’s in the basement which is normal lower in height than most parking, cost is super high, very small and tight spaces and if you’re deep enough the lane becomes one way so you have to watch out for on coming traffic when you’re coming in and leaving. That AND the material selection for the furniture is suede which I’m sure was cleaned thoroughly but whenever we sat on it felt dirty and like something was biting us. Not a smart material. Other than those two minor things that they won’t be able to change it was a nice hotel with nice staff
