If I could give this stay 0 stars, I would. We arrived for our 4 PM check-in and were initially happy with the property. We explored the grounds and checked the hot tub—it was working, though there was some sediment at the bottom. After leaving for dinner in Woodstock, we returned around 8 PM to find signs that someone had been on the property. An unfamiliar item was left by the hot tub, a basement light was on, and most concerning, we discovered the basement door couldn’t be locked. We called the “24/7” property manager—no answer, no return call. I messaged the host and didn’t get a response for hours. As two younger women, we felt unsafe and chose to leave and stay at a nearby hotel—at twice the cost. The host later claimed there were no signs of intrusion and refused a refund, even accusing us of lying. I have video proof of the unlockable door. Also, the listing falsely claims it’s located in Phoenicia, which it is not. On top of that, there was black mold in the shower. After reading reviews on other platforms, it’s clear this wasn’t an isolated incident. Other guests in 2022 also mentioned the basement door not locking and feeling unsafe, including issues with neighbors harassing guests in the hot tub area. While you can’t control who approaches your property, you can ensure guests’ safety with secure locks. It’s unacceptable that this hasn’t been addressed. I’ve always had 5-star reviews as a guest—it’s disappointing this host didn’t do the right thing.
