Convenient location, functional, but pricey
Overall the stay was fine and everything in the room was functional and clean. It was fun to stay in the historic hotel and it was in a great location for being near the conference center. However I believe there's a difference between keeping the historic feel and deciding to not update anything. The AC was pretty lackluster and it was pretty warm in the room even in March and overall the room felt more similar to a motel room than a relatively pricey hotel room. I think just a few cosmetic and bedding upgrades could go a long way. The same can be said for the gym which seemed like a second thought with a lot of broken equipment and the pool which was drained with trash in the bottom.

Historic old hotel, run-down but comfort sleep
A historic old hotel, actually on the National Register. Run down these days, but still had a common and quiet sleep. Room and bathroom were clean. Quiet. Bars and restaurants across the road and next door. Bathroom is very small. Good, central location near light rail stop from airport. Ok for a one night stay and the history.
All the art work on walls, helpful staff. Answering questions of an old person. Love that red head.

Disliked: Staff & service
Love the historic feel, beds very comfortable. Most of the desk staff were rude when asked questions. Our room window was so dirty, could barely see out in day time. Our room was kept clean & stocked. This could be an amazing hotel with some customer service training & a window cleaning.
This was the worst experience I've ever had at a hotel... It was absolutely filthy and disgusting. There is no parking. The room was atrocious. The entire place was filthy
The lady at the front desk was one of the most rude people I have ever spoke to in my life and did not care about my situation and assured me that regardless of me immediately checking out because the room was so nasty that the hotel would be keeping my money and there was nothing I could do about it... Plus this hotel is not haunted. That's a gimmick. There's no energy there or anything like that. Save your money. You'd be better off staying at like a motel 6 on the side of the road and then the San Carlos hotel. It is absolutely disgusting

Overall, we liked the historic building and rooms and enjoyed our stay. The cost of room was much less than surrounding properties in the downtown area.
Following were our disappointments:
Was not notified in advance that no parking at hotel and that we needed to park in city garage on back side of block for $18 per day.
Homeless people around area, walking around during day and sleeping on sidewalks at night.
Water in shower fluctuated in temperature based on other people in building taking showers at same time. We talked to assistant manager about the water. He stated that the new owners will be making improvements to the building in the future.
This is a great hotel that is close to everything. The only thing that would have been better is if they provided their own parking.

No parking garage. Smallest bathroom ever. No electrical plugs or not easy to access. No way to change temp in room. Old carpet. Totally overpriced for the value
Chelsea at the reception desk was delightful. I always enjoy staying at historic hotels. They remind me of stays in Europe. Room was clean and quiet. Not having my own room thermostat was a little disconcerting at first, but not a problem.
Shower was terrible, near scalding water would come on when you’re in middle of showering, and shower knob was so difficult to turn on. No thermostat in room.
This hotel has a television from like the 1970s. The furniture is also from that same era. If you’d like nostalgic, then you’re gonna love the hotel San Carlos. You’ll also be greeted by memorabilia on the walls of ghost sightings and of famous people who have stayed there over the last hundred years. Marilyn Monroe was one and if they would fill the pool, it would really feel like a Renaissance hotel.
