Liked: Cleanliness
The staff didn’t have my reservation when I got there—they acted surprised. When I got to my room it was clean and I was amazed at how hot the water was. I loved the square nearby. At night you can hear all the people yelling in the street and it was hard to sleep. I also used the do not disturb door hanger and they ignored it—I had wet clothes hanging from getting rained on and they put them to the side on a chair, which was really obnoxious because I was trying to dry them. I
got food from the restaurant and it was disappointing. Top reason I picked it was for safety, but probably not needed, Xela felt safe. They do close the doors at night and have to ring you in so that was a nice feature. Service was ok, everything seemed to be off a bit or slow—I asked for help with bags upon check out and I ended up carrying them myself because they took so long. They mentioned in room massages—which is a local woman comes to your room; I got a massage and she was good, but just a normal massage, no deep tissue or anything. She was very prompt and nice and after traveling for hours and doing the Pacaya volcano it was very much needed.
