Set ON lake Michigan, this mid-century John Randal Macdonald home, with 180 degree views of the water, and manicured lawns and gardens is an escape! Watch spectacular sunrises with a coffee in your hand, the lone eagle fishing during midday while you enjoy a beer or a stunning full moon with a glass of wine. The view is breathtaking every time of the day! How about an experience as a gift to celebrate yourself or for someone you love?
There are two bedrooms upstairs (both queen - one has an ensuite bathroom, the other a common bathroom), one bedroom downstairs (king - with an ensuite bathroom), and 4 queen bunk beds in the common area downstairs, that can easily sleep 4 couples or for kids. The basement area is around 1500 sq ft. (50 ft x 30 ft). This area includes the 4 bunk beds, a pool table, two small seating areas, and two bedrooms - one king bedroom with an ensuite bathroom and a smaller room with 2 twin beds. There is also a powder room upstairs, making a total of 3.5 bathrooms. Extra air mattresses can be used in the study upstairs and the common areas downstairs.
The design flow is as follows: as you enter you walk into a sunken living room with floor to ceiling glass for an uninterrupted forever view of Lake Michigan. A stone wall holds a gas fireplace facing the sofas. To the right is a raised room which is reminiscent of mid century cigars and music and a fireplace. A hallway on the right leads past the study and common bathroom to two bedrooms at the far end and next to each . One has an ensuite bath and closet.
To the left of the entrance is the dining area and the kitchen behind it. A small bar counter separates the kitchen from the dining area. A sliding door leads out from the dining area to the step down and screened in Lanai room and from there to the lawns and the lake outside.
In the basement, accessed through the laundry room, there is a master bedroom with a king bed and an ensuite bathroom on the left and another smaller wood paneled room with two twin beds. On the right side is a larger sized living area, with two sets of sofas for conversation, a pool table, and FOUR queen bunkbeds, that can sleep 8 confortably. A total of 12 guests can sleep in the basement. And there are a couple air mattresses if necessary. We charge an additional fee of $50 per guest per night after the first two.
We hope you enjoy this home and experience a little bit of a mid century lifestyle. John Randal MacDonald designed homes have little areas at different levels meant to surprise visitors. Enjoy! The architect also had a philosophy of 1/3rd land, 1/3rd water and 1/3rd sky and this home is a classic reflection of that design philosophy.
